On the south coast with a load of retired folk. Makes me feel young.

Dunno if that link will work, it's the first time I've tried it on a phone. To suggest players don't receive media training to come with invasive journalism is at best naive.

You still haven't understood what I said. Wane is OOC at the end of the season, when asked about NZ he dodged the question. Sam said he hasn't signed anywhere meaning as things stand he is a Wigan player for the next 3 years. Neither came out and said they weren't going anywhere. It may mean something, it might not.

FWIW I hope Sam will see out the original terms and stay for next year the net us a decent fee. I also think he is a decent and honest enough bloke to keep his word. However if IL receives a significant enough offer he may well deem it too good to turn down.

As for Wane, he is OOC, there has been no suggestion from anyone that an extension is under negotiation, I would hope that IL is simply keeping his affairs private again. Who knows?

I thought Shaun was on a two year plus one year option type contract.
He's done a good job considering the players that have left and the injuries we've had.
Hope he stays.

I understood what you said. Media training or not I think far too much is read into what they don't say.

There is an interesting twist on this. Transfer fees count on the NRL salary cap. I reckon that means it would be highly unlikely a NRL club would offer say a £1m fee for Sam. So that it might not be possible for the fee to be as vast as some might think.

In turn I would suggest that would mean if IL's head was turned for a much lower fee, it is too easily turned.

If he does go I reckon all we will hear is "six figure sum" and if we do you can bet it will be closer to £100K than £999K. If it's a huge fee like £750K or £1m IL will make sure we know.

As for Wane, he is OOC, there has been no suggestion from anyone that an extension is under negotiation, I would hope that IL is simply keeping his affairs private again. Who knows?

As FT mentioned his contract was for two years with an option of a third. Don't know if that is in the clubs favour or by mutual agreement. I have thought for some time he'd be given the option by IL so my opinion is if he leaves it will be down to him wanting to. I am pretty ambivalent either way, unlike with losing Sam or H.

Maybe NZW will pay his transfer fee over two years or the length of any deal done.
That is commonplace in soccer and if done would get over any NRL club's problem with their Salary Cap.
My guess is that he will see out another two years at Wigan.
Like I say, that's a guess!

If you don't bother to go to the game when you live in the locality then you are not really a fan and therefore your views are invalid. It's simple.

That still would not allow for a stupendous fee even if it were allowed and why would Wigan want the money in stages anyway?

Say it was a £750K fee and it was split over three seasons at £250K a season. That is still a big chunk out of a salary cap when you add Sam's wage to it which would have to be considerably in excess of his rumoured £300K here. So if Sam was on say £500K that would be £750K on one player per season. Not going to happen IMO even with the large Aussie salary cap.

As I said I reckon any fee we get for any player to an Aussie club is going to be closer to £100K than the opposite end of the scale. Wouldn't surprise me if Hock and Mossop went for £100K each either.

Mind you a valuation of £750K or £1m by IL might just out the Aussies off and at the same time convince Sam he's here for his contract. Or IL could keep it simple and just tell 'em to get stuffed!

Sam Hopkins : Fri Jun 14, 2013 9:41 pm
He has signed for you from next season.

Like every other Leyther I wish him well.

One day a Leyther will win the Euro lottery  Hope I am around when it happens.

Great prospect. You lucky beggars.

Highly sought after, was your best player when you played us earlier in the year. Should go well under a full time regime.

Not being funny but Tomkins is the biggest commodity in our game without doubt. If he talks to a club what can Wigan do? His contract won't be worth the paper it's written on due to the amount of cash that will be involved. It will be a shame to SL if he does leave but let's not forget how he got his chance in the game. I'm sure there are others just waiting to pounce given a sniff at a SL jersey. Time will only tell.
