And I share that view. It sounds brilliant in theory to have so many of our young players in the team but the reality is we already have a very inexperienced set of forwards with Prescott and O'carroll and McIlorum and in the back row it would be Harrison Hansen (23), Joel Tomkins (22) and Lee Mossop (20) who has only had a couple of months worth of super league experience. Add that to Flanagan and Liam Farrell who have never played super league before and it would put us in a very vunerable position.

Older more experienced packs would get the better of us. Don't get me wrong I believe all five players are talented and certainly in the future Wigan wont need to purchase another back row forward - providing these players are brought through correctly and reach their potential. But at the moment with the loss of Gareth Hock - I wouldn't like to lose another experienced player Phil Bailey and replace both players with young lads who have had little/no super league experience.

Wigan can either do two things. Give Phil Bailey a contract extension. He comes off the quota this year (because he was signed before the new rules were announced) and allow Liam Farrell and Mark Flanagan to adapt to super league either on loan or short spells in the team and allow Harrison Hansen, Joel Tomkins and Lee Mossop to get that bit more experienced and wiser.

Or release Phil Bailey along with Gareth Hock and make a move for an experienced second rower who will add a bit more beef and grunt to our pack with the wages from both Gareth Hock and Phil Bailey (Both six figure amounts you would imagine) and go for Frank Puletua or David Kidwell either would make fantastic signings - both players are out of contract at the end of the season.

I like you would like to think that the Club if they were to release Bailey they would bring In an experienced backrower, although I think it's more likely that Bailey will stay. Having been lucky enough to take in two reserve games this year, it perhaps may take time but I have little boubt that within 18 months to 2 years we'll have the best backrow in Superleague, it's just such a big shame that in my opinion the best backrower in superleague wont be part of it. I'm gonna be honest I still can't get my head around the quota system but my rough understanding is that to bring in new overseas players current ones are going to have to go, perhaps Phelps and probably Bailey.

I am not sure the second row (where we lack experience) is an area where experience is really needed, good lines and power and skill I am sure are more important in that position. Yes it would be great to have a mixture of experience and youth but we don't for these next few games as much as before so lets relish the chance to see our young guns play, and I think we will see results of it not only in future but we will see how good they are tomorrow from 8 onwards.

Packs have been getting the better of us all season so I see know difference in playing an inexperienced pack for the next few weeks and maybe even next season, we will get the rewards of playing the younger players for years to come. We also still have Fielden and Coley who are very experienced. I think you are slightly making a mountain out of a mole hill.

your last paragraoh is spot on but Pritchard or Watmough would do a better job IMO but perhaps the players of your choice would demand a smaller wage.

You confess that experienced packs have been getting the better of us all season - so you recognize there is a problem. But your solution is just to play on like this in the hope we will get the rewards in future years. I don't think this is a very sensible idea. To let packs batter us for future seasons in the hope that what? Our pack will suddenly grow a backbone and become awesome? Coley is out of contrac this year and Fielden next year - chances are we will have to add some experience at some point.

Experience is one thing with Coley and Fielden but that is it. Do they bully opposition packs? Do they strike fear into the opposition? Do they feck. We need players who are tough, rough, experienced pros who will give beef and grunt in the pack. Quentin Pongia was a brilliant example of this. I think to go again next season with the same pack minus Gareth Hock and Phil Bailey would be insane. The forwards have been a big problem for Wigan these last two years and for the last couple of years we have made other positions our priorities when it should have been the forwards. You say I am making a mountain our of a mole hill but look what Saints have done with Tony Puletua. Compare his and Paul Clough statistics to Phil Baileys and Harrison Hansens and Joel Tomkins.

I do relish the opportunity to see some of young players get a shot next week but for a full season I think we will see the early enthusiasm die away with the torture of a professional rugby league players lifestyle. The young lads wont be able to handle it. We saw that in 2006. We need some seasoned pros with experience and power to bolster our forwards big time. Players who can look after and help nurture our very young set of forwards.

Pritchard or Watmough would do an equally good job but are only off contract next year and we need to improve the squad NOW. Frank Puletua and David Kidwell I would be equally happy with.

no one forced him to put that poop up his nose. the fact others do it is irrelevant. It is his fault, he got caught but its still his fault.

My bad on Ben Ross. Having neck surgery and will be lucky to play the game again in 2010.

Frank Puletua is actually a prop forward who can play second row.

Frank Puletua and David Kidwell it is then.

Although if we could sign him now Anthony Watmough would be the biggest signing the club has made since Trent Barrett. He is better than Gareth Hock.

I agree 100% mate.

We need an experienced leader prop to replace Coley. I really think we should go for Nathan Cayless because with Paramatta signing a couple of props and signing Hindmarsh on again they are going to look to get rid of some players and he is off contract at the end of 2010 so maybe we could get him here a year earlier?

As for the backrow if we could get Kidwell on a 2 year deal to replace Bailey that would be brilliant because by the time he leaves Farrell and Mossop will be fully blooded first teamers.

I agree with you no worries. I was more talking about the next 6 weeks.

Long term and for next season we do need more power in the forwards and a big signing would be awesome.

Our backs have been great this season overall they have just not had the space to work in.

I would rather have Cayless than Kidwell so Cayless and Puletua would do for me but I am sure no one would complain with your choice.

Wasn't Watmough the one who shot out of the line in the WCC putting his shoulder into Burrows face, if that was Watmough he had a cracking against Leeds, but I'm imaging he wouldnt come cheap plus he'll have a rep career. We would probably have a better chance at getting New Zealanders because of there inability to play state of origin as well as them still being selected to play for there country oven though they play overseas.

Yes that was Watmough.

I agree about New Zealanders, they are more likely to leave as they don't play origin and can still be selected for international duty as well. I think players from Aus demand alot more as well.

Totally agree.

For me if we are getting rid of Bails then we should be looking at Pritchard. does anyonr know if he is off contract or is the buzz around him purley our own doing?

Thought he is 'Irish' so doesn't count on the quota?
