I've said on here before that once Hopkins signed I'd be going after Paea and Briscoe to complete our squad if there were no other departures. Another player I forgot was Sarginson who is rumoured to be coming in so those 4 in would add plenty to the squad. I would also be wanting those 4 before any decision is reached over Tomkins because If he did go we'd need a top class replacement.
Outs- Richards, Mossop, Tuson, Hock.
Ins Briscoe, Sarginson, Paea, Hopkins.
Seems about fair to me but we always seem to shed more then come in so Tomkins in the departure column with no other arrivals wouldn't surprise me although it would depress me.
Obviously there has been rumours of our interest. This guy would be my number one target.
You mention above you wouldn't want Thornley's development hindered by bringing in Lulia, but surely going for Paea, when we already have Andy Powell and Sam Hopkins in, would limit first team chances to likes of Taylor, Crosby, Spencer and Dudson? I agree Paea is a top player but I think we are set for forwards now and need to concentrate on who replaces Pat and, looking more and more likely by the day, Sam.

I am all for watching the "spectacle" of the Powell signing, but i could honestly not care a jot if he was denied access to the first team by a player of the caliber of Paea. Lets be honest, it could be a very shrewd piece of buisness. but there is also the chance that he could be a passenger or worse for a good while.
The Hopkins signing is a good one (very excited about this one) and our young pack of Taylor, Crosby, Flower and Dudson would only be bolstered by his potential / wishful signing. From what i understand from the lobbies though is that he is more a 13 anyway ?
Things to bear in mind though are that Dudson has been pretty susceptible to injuries this year, Hopkins may take a while to get up to speed, Crosby is still a very young man and would require a similar amount of rotation as this year.
Not sure i have seen enough ooomf from Spencer to think that he is still a few years away from being a SL regular
I have also heard a lot of non forum chatter relating to Prescott, and the signs are pretty negative (currently)
to have
Flower Crosby Taylor Dudson
Backed up by
Lauaki Hopkins Spencer Prescott
(don't think i have missed anyone?)
Still leaves us exposed in the front row (imo). It would mean that our senior prop Prescott / Lauaki would not even be in our first choice pack.
Paea is reaching peak, and is one of the top 5 props in the league (again IMO). I think it is a no brainer that we still need bodies in the pack. Its the one position that you cannot have enough troops
If it was left up to me i would not trust in the enthusiasm of youth any further than i had to. The boys have done FANTASTICALLY well this year. I would still like a couple of old heads in there though to lead the way.

Especially moving into next year.
Agreed. Let's bear in mind that Prescott's injury is rumoured to be a very bad one. Lauaki moves into his final year of his three year contract next season, who's to say he will have that contract extended? (More than likely not i'd say).
Now add to the fact that Mossop & Tuson will have left and we're taking a risk on a thirty odd year old ex-RU prop then there's nothing like a bit of rotation to keep the pack playing well.

I can't see us going for Paea given we have Lauaki as well as those props you mention. The fact Powell is a risk and Lauaki is Mr Average doesn't mean they aren't part of the squad and so adding Paea to make nine props for 2014 if you include Flower and Prescott as well is too many. So I'd agree, it's got to be backs we are after and quality ones as well.
OK some of the props are young but Flower, Taylor and Dudson will expect starts in 2014 and so will Powell. That still leaves Prescott, Crosby, Spencer and Lauaki without a game.
Thornely is having a very, very good first full season and i would not like him to be displaced by a more senior player (based purely of reputation and salary.....possibly?)
Having another youngster such as Sarginson pushing for a place "feels" like the better long term plan to me. Granted if a player of Lulia's talent was to join and to hit the straps straight away, the current team would obviously benefit. However (without knowing the future) i think that Thornley has the makings of a very, very good 3/4. Whilst not adamant about it, i do think this is the better mid - long term plan.
I've been quite disappointed with Thornley this season, especially defensively. Bags of potential, though.
i dont get it, i thought we would be over trying to signing a big lumbering prop after feka as entertaining as it is watching powerhouses run at a defense you still get more out of a hard working agile and athletic prop. paea wouldn't be able to keep up with are defensive structure and would be blowing after 15 minutes work, success shows lately that you can't afford to have these players anymore. Plus hes agents attitude stinks to high heaven i wouldn't want him gaining access to anybody near are club "clubs have to realize that paea is a NRL start playing in super league" yeah right he isn't even in the top 15 best props in superleague.
