Not really. They all just support someone else like Man Utd, Liverpool or now all of a sudden City.

I can remember when lots of Wigan RL fans supported Everton, and still do, and would have nothing to do with the Latics, being that the Latics were in the Northern Prem, a noble league, but non league after all.

Personally I think its down to the fact we aren't a fashionable or successful club so most kids tbese days choose Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal or City. Also theres family ties. Alot of people in Wigan are the overspill of Liverpool and Manchester who obv support a team already. Joe Bloggs is going to bring his son up to support the same team he does. I was taught by my Aunties and Uncles etc to support Utd but chose Latics after a friend of my Dads took me to Springfield Park. If I moved to Warrrington I would still expect my children to be Wigan fans.
The number of children supporting Latics is growing. On average we have the youngest fanvsse in the PL but it will take a generation for us to grow once they have children and start to bring them.

When I was growing up, Wigan Athletic were playing non -league football (there you go, showing my age!). Of course kids were not going to support them in this instance, just that "Chorley" or "Leigh" are not the #1 choice at the moment. Frankly kids chose teams that were on TV, that they could relate to and watch most of the time. More often than not they were "localish" big teams such as Liverpool and Man Utd, but not always- Tottenham were very popular.
Certainly amongst my friends there was non of this "Football vs Rugby" nonsense, indeed whenever Wigan did well in a cup run and played some "bigger" teams, there would be a rush for tickets to watch them, everyone supporting the Latics.
I can't really speak about Wigan being "fashionable" atm, maybe in time the younger generation will latch onto Wigan Athletic if they continue to remain in the Premier League? Why not? It seems perfectly logical for them to do so, with no "pre-adopted" club to change from.
In summary I think you need to look at the demographics of the people in Wigan, compare them to the relatively recent success of Wigan Athletic and draw conclusions on that basis.

Can Wiggins do it tomorrow?
He'll be after gold, but any medal would I think mean he would have won more Olympic medals than any other British athlete.

Im more nervous about tomorrow than i was about the brutal mountain stage on the tour.
Tour De France winner and GB's first gold medal at the Olympics in the same year will make him Britiains greatest sportsman.
