I expected big things of Thornley before he buggered off to Sale. Not happy if Leeds get him. :?

To be honest, there a few people who said he wasn't fulfilling his potential while he was at Wigan, hence he'd barely played at first team level. If he can't impress at Sale, bloody hell - what does that say about him?

Not saying I'd be pleased to see him join Leeds, but I didn't think he was a massive loss at the time.

Cruncher - who are these people? It certainlt wasn't anyone from within the club, the coaches and the owner were upset at losing him. IFL made Iain a good offer unfortunately it could not compete with Sale's!

He was thought highly of as a youngster. Less so towards the end of his time at Wigan.

Less so because towards the end of his career at Wigan his head was being turned by Sale, nearly 12months, IIRC, prior to the end of his contract at Wigan.

Just because he doesn't cut it in RU hardly makes him a bad rugby player, some people are suited to RL as much as some are suited to RU - in other words, they can't play the other code to the standard of thier own. Some people are so bitter about players leaving its unbelievable.

Regarding the return of Iain to RL, I've heard nothing like that but last time I spoke to him he was thoroughly enjoying his time in Leeds and in RU and was hoping to make a bigger impact at Sale in the near future.

He may be a nice lad, but if he didn't really cut it at Wigan and he's not really cutting it at Sale, what does that say about him as a player at the highest level - in either code?

As someone has said above the club did what they could to keep hold of him so your theory that he did not cut it Wigan is your own theory not what actually happened.

IIRC Thornley opted to go to college and study rather than train with Wigan full time. He left the club at 18/19 years old, very rarely do we see players of such a young age playing first team.

Paul prescott finished hes law degree aswell as training full time it was nothing to do with the fact he couldn't study and play at the same time. also josh charnley being another one who was at college aswell as first team.

as far as hes player development was coming along nobody better to ask than rogues (if your reading)? but i have heard more than once that soon as other caught up with hes size he was going a little bit stale.
