True. I wouldn't have signed him and if we did I would have said "You're on your last chance" which the driving stuff would have been. He just seems to poop on every club he plays for.

Ah, a fan’s forum. A far more reliable source of information than the club itself.

I must admit I’m mildly curious as to what this family issue is but it’s a private matter and none of my business. If there is any truth in the rumour that he will be late back or even not back at all I’m sure the club will do right by the player. Family comes first.

If/when he does come back I hope we get him fully fit before putting him into the team.

I have only mentioned that rumours have been circulating around Wigan and on the social media that he is not coming back..

So do not accuse me of manufacturing a story or should I say a rumour that was already in circulation.

Those problems where still there throughout the parts of the season he was with us.

If there is a chance French will not be ready for day 1 of pre season then he should be on the next plane home.

Such a tough situation for the club and French himself. It seems like the same family situation is still a concern but what do you do? Force him to come back ASAP and it’s not the human thing to do but the club needs to look after itself as well. The injury complicates things further and I don’t envy the likes of Rads trying to work it all out. We need him badly IMO but we need him fit and as happy as he can be. Working out the best way of achieving that will be a job and a half.

Can't say I wholly agree with this Rogues. Whilst it's true family does come first it's not Wigan's responsibility to pay him a large sum of money to not do the job he's being paid for.

French, of course, has the right to prioritise as he sees fit. He doesn't have the right to expect Wigan to fund it indefinitely. The club gave him extended leave last year and, in my opinion, fulfilled their obligations to him in doing so. He can't reasonably expect that situation to continue year on year. Once he returned last year that was the club "doing right by him" over as far as I'm concerned.

As much as I sympathize with the family situation, French took up the option to extend the contract for an additional year.

He didn't have to do that and could have prioritised the family situation and found a job in Australia locally.

On that basis, anything other than him being 100% ready to start pre season on day 1 is a failure on the clubs part to manage the situation.
