The same could be said for Thornley or Hankinson or Sammutt when he left. The clamour for players well below the standard needed here is mind blowing sometimes.

Looks likely he will be going to Toulouse.

I don’t know that for a fact and I don’t have any inside info on that.

I do though know Ryan and his dad, both good blokes.

I think in hindsight the move to Wigan wasn’t a good one for him.

He was a natural eyes up half. He didn’t really fit in to the structures at Wigan but they tried to force a square peg into a round hole and make him fit the mould that he simply wasn’t.

His pace made him an easy player to move around positionally and all of a sudden he became a utility rather than a specialist half.

Hopefully the operation Smith has had as been a success, who knows how much the injury was affecting him, was a bit of a bolt from the blue when the pictures of him in a sling were published

Someone on the other board who claims to know French on a somewhat personal level is saying he’s only due back in February & the sole reason for not returning is personal reasons.

Whilst I can sympathise with whatever is going on, he stayed over in Aus for too long last year, returned unfit which lead to him missing the first few games and could have been what caused his injury.

The club have already said his rehab is behind because of Covid, he’s going to miss our pre season so it looks like we are either at risk of the same happening again or it’s going to be a number of games into the season before we see him.

He’s been home since June now, imo because of what happened last season he should be back for day 1 of pre season but when you add in the fact his rehab is behind it highlights the point even more.

Why then, unlike Jai Field and the other signings from down under has French not sent a personal messsage to supporters confirming that he is returning and looking forward to playing next season.

Especially, when the club is selling season tickets for what will be the 150th anniversity of the club.

I guess without knowing what the personal reasons are its hard to judge. As others have said, this is a job and family comes first but I agree it is frustrating from a supporters point of view but we dont know the full story
