Tom Briscoe has gone to Leeds on slightly less money than we offered him. He wants to play with his brother who is already there.

That's an odd move if true.

They've already got Dog-botherer and Riley as first choice wings and have brought Penny back for next season. Can't see that they'd need another winger adding to the roster.

BJB favourite position is FB and that's where Wire will utilise him

'Do you remember when we had that meeting in Orlando? We talked about how we were knocked out the previous year by Leeds. And at the end, I asked you one question. "Do you want to be a semi-final team? Or do you want to do something special?" You all said you wanted to win. But talking is easy – it needed you to believe. It needed you to work hard – harder than you had – and make sacrifices. You did all that. you worked for each other. You stuck together when it was tough. And because of your efforts, you sit here tonight as champions. I'm proud of you. Be proud of yourselves. You've done something special.'

Shaun Wane's post-Grand Final speech. 5th October 2013.

Hmm, thought Ratchford had made the FB position his own.

It's been fun.

Ratchford at fullback but I think TS likes a player who can command more than one position, Stef also slots in to the centres and hb, bring in BJB covers wing and fb and with Hodgson announcing his retirement it makes sense.

All rumours at the moment though.

Possibly BJB to FB and Ratchford replacing Briers/covering FB, centre and HB when he finally goes?

Leeds and Wire look like they'll pull away from the pack IMO over the next couple of years unless our kids can develop very quickly and we as a club have a change of transfer policy.

Huddersfield aren't anything special and I can't see them improving beyond their current level and Saints will improve but not to that level.
Great game of rugby league. Fantastic atmosphere, Wigan were breathtaking and dominant in all areas for the first 25 minutes, coupled with us making alot of dumb mistakes, then fortunately they brought McIlorum on which helped us back into the game. I thought some of the tries we scored to get us within two we're out of this world stuff. Towards the end we had to force it a little and we had a few things go wrong, i.e Monas kick on the first for King and Solomona going off who was causing havoc. Wigan were clinical in their eventual execution of us. Proud of Wire today and gave us a little glimpse to the future. Silverwood was awful as per, but I expect no less. Tomkins is a world class player and by far the best english player in SL. Wigan are a champion side and would be a worthy winner of taking our title as challenge cup. Good luck over the next month and a bit.
I'm sorry but we need a Centre more than a winger we have missed Carmont this season and Pat's stats show it

I think our squad looks OK next year - the forwards are strong and have a lot of depth especially if Powell and Hopkins do well like I think they will. It does seem like anyone's guess how Pettybourne will go.

As for the backs, Bowen is and always has been a sensational fullback - he may not be as quick as he was but in terms of his positioning, cover defence and his reliability under the high ball he is unquestionably better than Tomkins. The only concern is his fitness.

Whoever comes in at left wing will be a lot quicker than Richards which is a plus but we'll definitely take a hit with the loss of Pat's kicking ability. I expect Gelling and Thornley to be better next year and the rest of the backs will be as per.

The signings of Sarginson and particularly Clubb are very strange. Both have utility value but I'm not sure the squad needs added depth, more the team needs added quality.

But all in all you would have thought we'd be in the mix for trophies again.

Agree with MadDog above.
Either Burgess or Manfredi in Pat's shirt will add pace and power.
I didn't want Briscoe. Not tall enough, he's vulnerable to the high ball.
Pacey but nowhere near as fast as Burgess.
Our half backs will be better next year too. Smith has had a very good season anyway and Green will need an excellent season to get another contract or an NRL club. Having said that he did score the winning try v Hudds.
The pack is big, aggressive, young and very fit. Plenty cover too even for Lockers as Hopkins can play 13 as well as Pettybourne, I think.
If I have a doubt for next year it is with the goal kicking.

It's unfortunate Burgess didn't get more first team action, was he injured earlier on in the season? Some of us need more convincing but he does look the part. If he plays on the left full time next year he will struggle in the defence in the first few "big" games but SW gives some players his patience and others are sent out on loan. I hope he's given a chance like Charnley, he didnt turn out too bad
