Owen Trout not extending at Huddersfield and will leave for 2024. Hull, Cas and clubs this side of the Pennines interested are the reports I’ve just read.

That could be a move we could make not just for next season but maybe for the rest of this. Ian Watson seems a man who could hold a grudge and you could play on that.

I wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole.
Seems to think that he’s a better player than he actually is.
Threatens to be an aggressive player but it isn’t in him.

I’d be tempted to see if we could get him until the end of season.
I don’t think that he is a regular so maybe we could do a deal.

Seen Owen develop since he was a young kid and he is probably one of the best forwards I’ve seen coming through. If you use him right you get a middle forward with good strike and ball playing ability up there with the best British forwards currently playing with plenty of improvement in him.

I thought he would go fantastically well at Huddersfield however I just get the impression that he doesn’t fit the mould of a Watson type player, he is a player that needs to be allowed to play and use his skills rather than just be used as a battering ram.

I think we need to bring in 2 younger forwards (less than 25) and 2 older forwards (26+) if we were to bring in Trout and Esseh should he become a free agent then I think we would have done very well with our younger recruitment.

I’m not breaking any confidences by saying Wigan are 100% interested in Trout. A key part of his decision may not just be financial at this stage, he’s very motivated to be the best player he can be and an environment that cultivates that will appeal as part of the package.

Feels like he’s not a regular because of this news tbh. Watson seems like this side of the Pennines Daryl Powell, in that he’s a bitter man. Trout looks to be this seasons Wardle and like Wardle, I hope he ends up here, only this time let’s make it happen with immediate effect. Having a crop of young props, all coming in to their mid 20’s over the next few years would be an excellent position to be in.

Esseh has to be the number one youth target for Wigan imo. I can't remember the last time I saw a 19 year old prop putting himself about like that. Normally with guys of that size & build, they don't have the heart to match (think Kibula), but Eseh was absolutely throwing himself into his tackles. He had a few words with Isa after one tackle & seemed to revel in it.

Wakey seem in a bit of a precarious position, so let's strike (like we did with Bateman at Bradford) and get him in. We could even loan him back to Wakey to sweeten the deal further.
