Eckersley could (maybe should) be part of Wigan's future. You can't say that about Thornley.

Room for both for next season IMO. You’d imagine Cust goes, so Hampshire backs up 1, 6 and 7. You wouldn’t want to be in a position where 2 injuries puts you straight in to Eckersley playing every week and if Thornley went that is where we would be. You also have to factor in that KPP won’t be around to cover centre and the days of Isa doing it should be over as well.

Sure I'm happy if there's room for both next season, just don't want us to lose a promising young player like we did with Nicholson.

Without doubt. If it came down to a choice I’d play the long game but hopefully we can have both. It’s tough to say currently where Eckersley could end up positionally. He’s got a chance of bringing through anywhere from 1-5, so we can hopefully get him some chances this season and definitely next.

It's good to have this young talent coming through. The same as Forber; you figure, at some point soon they'll be given some first-team time, and be all the better for it. Hill and Nsemba both look well like worth persisting with, too.

Lose King and Miski, play Eckersley at centre with Douglas outside of him.

Too early for that yet IMO. I’d much rather be down 2 guys, like those you mention and have Thornley to call on. A pairing of Thornley and Eckersley or Thornley and Douglas looks fine but the two of them together could be pushing it. They’re only 19 and 18 (20 and 19 at the start of 2024).

Saints seem to have signed Daryl Clarke for 2024 on a 2 year deal. He’s so much better than Powell but yet we persevere… The sooner O’Neill takes the 9 shirt the better!!

He’s a good player when he’s on the field, but in a team that has a lot of players, whose bodies look to be feeling the strain of their efforts over the last few seasons, I’m not sure it’s a great signing tbh.
