It’s a tough one with Powell. He’s always been limited but we haven’t used our hooker like Saints, Wire etc have used their hookers over the years. That’s not saying Powell could play like Clark or a prime Roby because he couldn’t. He’s clearly a big leader in the group and is very highly thought of in that regard. You can’t really quantify what he brings to the side day in, day out though and if that is enough.
What I will say though is that IMO now is the time for patience. We have Powell and 2 young hookers. I wouldn’t want to sign a hooker that may hold back O’Neill and Forber and would much prefer to go down the route of them gradually taking over from Powell over the next couple of seasons. If Powell can only ever be first choice though, that won’t work, so it’ll take a brave decision at some point.
