And that is probably why Shorrocks will start at 6 again tomorrow.

In fairness to Cust, it was his first game back and the whole team fell apart and pretty much every Leeds player went from anonymous to having a field day. Cust had a shocker, no doubt about it but there was far more to that capitulation than just the Shorrocks to Cust change IMO. The main issue for me was complacency (mixed with a bit of arrogance). We didn’t exactly break our backs even at 14-0.

I agree it was a poor performance all round. What I fail to understand is why Cust didn’t play in the reserves. That would have allowed us to keep Hill in the team.

Maybe they wanted the more intense minutes in his legs, ready for tomorrow but 80 minutes in the reserves might have been better. What felt really strange was Hampshire being 18th man for the first team and not playing in the reserves. He’s back from 12 months out and needs games. To sit him on the sidelines on the off chance somebody (Cust I guess was the thinking) went down seemed crazy. We could’ve had minutes in to Cust and Hampshire and had some options but it turned out that it feels like we couldn’t be confident in either tomorrow now.

Cust in poor form is still a better option than Hampshire. He must have felt like he won the lottery when we signed him again. He wasn’t good enough to be first choice half back or fullback at Castleford or Wakefield yet here we are after he’s been out for 12 months saying we should pick him ahead of Cust?

I’ve not seen anybody in this thread say we should do that. I’ve said there could’ve been potential to do it, had he been given minutes in the reserves last week but he wasn’t, so we couldn’t anyway (and even then I wouldn’t have picked him) Hampshire has been signed as 3rd choice back up at full back and stand off, on presumably a low deal and that’s his position at the moment. I do think it’s pretty savvy business tbh.

I’d play Cust myself. Yes he was poor when he came on last week but who wasn’t in that second half? I really hope he can find his confidence. He seems a top lad and he’s a threat at his best, so it would be nice if he could end his time here playing well and get himself sorted elsewhere for next year (presuming he doesn’t stay here). In saying that, I still think we might see Shorrocks at 6 later on.

Not sure it was,to me Cust simply isn’t fit but that’s just my opinion as for Hampshire,the journeyman returns we shall see how long or how well he does.

Personally, I think he should have selected him last weekend in order to improve his match fitness.
