The issue you’d have now with Dupree is that it wouldn’t just be paying a fee, it would be paying an inflated one. HKR have guys involved with plenty of money and if they’ve had 2 bids turned down in excess of £100,000, you’re probably looking at it taking £150,000 plus. I’m not sure he’s worth going to those lengths for and handing in transfer requests never has a good feel to it.

Nah, why would we want a fed trained prop, with proven SL experience and a decent upside?

After all, we can continue to "look at our development pathways" which is code for watching the season going to pot, flogging kids and taking fans for mugs.

Sounds harsh, but it's happened too many times in recent seasons. They'll flog a kids or play lads out of position, rather than just getting someone in.

How instead, we just get someone in who's ready now and maybe win more than 1 trophy in 4 years.

Mixed feelings on this - Id love us to go after Dupree as young English forwards are in short supply. But I do have sympathy for clubs when they're in such a rough financial state post Covid and with no knowledge of what TV money will come in post 2023. Having said that, I'd imagine John Bateman's salary would come close to matching both a transfer fee and salary for Dupree.

Tomkins I acknowledged above, no idea if Wigan paid out for Bateman but it would really surprise me in mid 2020 when the pandemic was at its peak.

Bateman's salary has largely been spent.

I said it at the time - Wigan knew Bateman was going when they gave French such a big deal to stay. All the talk of having loads of cap space available after Bateman went was a bit far-fetched I'm afraid.
