| I see Hampshire as our future 6. He's good in both positions but even better at 6 IMO.

Same here, we have the best academy in the league but people seem obsessed with us signing players instead. Eastmond clearly has attitude problems judging from both this and his last season at Saints. Leave him be

I think Wane played him at FB because he is our 2nd best FB and wanted to rest Sam.
I dont think we can assume anything about where SW considers his best position to be without taking into context the players around him. The pre-season games may give us a better indication where SW sees him playing in 2014.

| Let's not beat around the bush Eastmond is a quality player. Many people rated him only 2nd to Tomkins in regards to how far he could go.
I'd have him at Wigan in a heartbeat but I can see Wire going in big for him. He'd be a definite step up from Briers and finally give them a true attacking threat at HB.
Good news for England RL as well

| If Eastmond became available without any shadow of a doubt we should be in for him.
He is a top class player who would give us cover across every position in the back line. Would happily see him in a centre birth next season before moving him to the halves or fullback down the line.
Do I remember him kicking at goal also?

It's not beyond the bounds of possibility he's learned his lesson. His transfer to RU was extraordinarily badly handled by him and his agent, and if the stories about how unhappy he's been in Union are true, it's likely set his career back by several years. For example, if he were to arrive at Wigan or Warrington, I wonder how long it would take him to reach first team standard. Months? Years maybe? In itself, that is a severe punishment for his serious error of judgment.
That said, good players don't become bad players permanently.
My big concern with Eastmond would be how injury-prone he's always seemed to be. If that is sorted out, I'd happily take a chance on his attitude.

yes - he did kick for saints. played centre and scored all their points in GF loss to Leeds (1 try and 3 goals)

| I'd have him in a heartbeat! Get him in at centre this year and then to fullback once Bowen goes. Leave Hampshire Powell and Williams to battle it out for the 6 shirt once Green leaves.

Hes an international, starting full back at one of the biggest clubs in the league. He wont come to Wigan to warm the bench. We wont be in for him anyway. Our squad is done for next season and rightly so. We have 30+ players competing for 25 places.

| If he wants out, why would he not come to Wigan to sit on the bench? It's not like he would get no game time. He could also solve our Wing issue in the shirt term.
There would be plenty of opportunities for him in my opinion at Wigan.

Honestly tell me why I'm wrong.
When both players last played RL Eastmond was selected over Briers for England. Tell me that outside of Wire Eastmond wasn't classed as the better player. Briers didn't even make the old Lancashire side.
Briers never achieved anything of note other than a few challenge cup wins.
RU weren't knocking down the door to sign Briers like the did with Harris, Robinson, Faz, KFC and Radders. However when you speak to any Warrington fans they talk like he was in the Johns bracket.
BTW there are plenty of none Wigan players that I give a respect to via grated teeth. The likes of KFC, Long, Harris, Morley, Senior, Webb, Lowes, Lyon etc fall into an elite bracket of player whose class can't be ignored. Please don't even try to say Briers should be included.

| It was never Briers 'talent' that prevented him being selected for GB/England/Lancs as well you know.

You are totally correct. It was more to do with other players talent that were better than him.

| Right so one player has 10 / 15 years in the game but never makes the 'big time'. He's either not good enough or unlucky.
We've seen Sculthorpe and Farrell play 6 for GB I'd say that points to Briers not being good enough.
Time to stop the excuses. He was a decent player but not international class. There's nothing wrong with that BTW.
Going back to my OP Eastmond is international class so hence he's a step up from Briers who wasn't.
