I don't know much about Eddie Jones, but Edwards was England ru schoolboys captain, so I'd say otherwise. And I can't see what role there would be at the club for a union coach. They learn from us, not us from them
So there is nothing at all we can learn from one of Union's top coaches?
I'm not advocating for him to take Nobles job but i can see the benefits if he was working with the club. I’m sure there are plenty of practices used in Union which would work in RL.
I’m sure also there are plenty of practices currently used in the NRL which would transform our club. Sadly tho I really don’t think we have the leaders to implement these changes. Never have I seen more of secular group of people than some RL fans.
Cant believe the negativity Eddie Jones seems to be getting.
Australia under him played the nearest you can get a union side to play a league type of attack. He encouraged players to use the ball. Hence he had the best set of back row forwards in the modern game.
Ohh he has no league expereince hes not good enough etc. Who the hell is . Nobby, Milward both the most succesful coaches in SL. We wont get a big Australian Coach. We wont get Bennett. So who is good enough for us. Edwards wont come, yet he has no league coaching experience yet some think hes the 2nd coming of the messiah. Ellery gets the best one hes not coached a SL club for a long time.
So who do people think is a good enough coach for us. Seems the most experienced is never good enough and the ones with no coaching in league should not even be thought of. And the ones who ahve coached but stopped arent good enough.
Seems we have so many experts on here why dont you give it a go. As no one else will ever be good enough
So you would say a lad who played Schoolboy rugby union 20 years ago has more experience than someone who has studied League all there lives. Its an interesting point of view i guess, but one which i cannot agree with.
Well he walked into a coaching role in union without too much fuss so he can't have been that clueless. Like I said I don't know much about Jones, but I would be surprised if he could come to League and be as successful as Edwards has been in union.

Last time I watched union all I saw was a bunch of forwards running it up the middle.

Graham Steadman, Niel Kelly, Mike Ford all got jobs in union and were a success they had no union experience.
Back on Edwards, and his union coaching he is still very much a number 2 as he has been throughout his career, serving under much more experienced coaches in that code in every position he has held including his current positions with Wasps and Wales.

What like five drives and then a kick you mean? Excellent Noble tactics they are...................
If you can't see that League can learn some stuff from Union they you most defiantly fall into the category Jon mentioned of the people who are hurting our game due to their ignorant attitudes. You probably won’t be bothered about by this tho as you probably believe League is the pinnacle of excellence in every area. How can any sport do things better eh?
Can’t honestly believe how naive or shut off to other ways of thinking some people are. It’s scary really as these are the people running our sport also. No wonder we have farces like the last the last WC, eight team playoffs and international eligibility rules that allow you 2 change who you want to play for as if it was a club.

Exactly like Noble tactics, which most people on here agree are getting us nowhere. A good argument for not signing union coaches IMO

I think the best League coaches will be better at coaching League than the best union coaches, and going by his record as Oz national coach, Jones probably isn't one of those anyway.[/quote]

Jones is regarded as one of the top coaches in that code, as you say you do not know anything about him, so why slate his achievements?

By who? Worst record of any Wallabies coach, in 2007 his Queensland Reds team finished bottom after managing 2 wins in a season. He had an advisory role with Soth Africa when they won the RUWC in 07. I remember reports of the final of how SA had managed to out England the English, that is play boring kicking rugby and relying on penalties ad drop goals to win. To me he sounds like exactly the kind of person I would hate to have at my club, and sounds very similar to Noble, so I have no idea why you are standing up for him

Mate i mean this in the nicest possible way but you in your first post said you did not know about Eddie Jones and now you seem to be an expert.
If you think Jones is not highly regarded as one of the most creative and attack minded coaches in the code you are wrong. The very fact he was asked to advise the World Champions clearly indicated he is well thought of, still 2 paragraphs on Wikipedia is a great depth of knowledge.

Maybe you're right, but I can only go off what I've read on him. From my admittedly limited knowledge he doesn't sound like the kind of person I would trust with improving our team. He failed with the Wallabies, failed with the Reds, then a played a part in the success of SA, who won with the negative tactics of kicking at every opportunity and winning the RUWC final by an enthralling 5 kicks to 3.
If you can link me to some sites that detail his success in improving teams attack and creativity I would love to read them
