Stadiums need to be used on a regular (if not daily basis).

You need to look at other clubs to see where income is generated in addition to match day revenue:

On site hotel.
Conference Centre (meeting rooms for hire).
Concerts.
Stadium naming rights.

Is the DW really empty during the week and evenings? At the least there was that famous wedding there...
Is there for some reason a lesser market for functions than in Warrington or St Helens?

It's no longer the all singing all dancing stadium/facility that it once was. Plenty of stadiums in the area have had face lifts or been built since this was along with places like Hotel Football that gives you a backdrop of Old Trafford.

Nothing a bit of TLC probably wouldn't cure, but I'm not sure the money is there.

The design of the stadium has so many things wrong with it and a lot to do with Whelan’s initial vision for it I believe. It was rushed for opening, access roads are useless and it’s never really been given the TLC it’s needed. The East Stand had plans ready to be implemented to change it into a fans bar underneath with a total renovation. We don’t use it enough for schools, conferences or the community like it should have. I’d like to see it be a central hub of the community with childcare etc. Basically like a huge Sure Start centre to plug gaps in the local community that have been lost during the austerity years. Rather than just have both clubs have their community trusts, go bigger and make the stadium a focal point too. It’s just sat there for 20 years sinking about 6 inches a year into the marshland!

And for another £10 million out of Whelans personal fortune at the time of £250 million plus, we could have had a better Stadium like that of neighbours Bolton Wanderers or even Doncaster and Rotherham United or even the rebuilt Stadium of Preston North End.

But that's tightfisted Whelan for you!

Leigh....They still point at planes!

this is a tricky one, if they can buy the stadium for 2.5 million its a bargian, at the moment we have a very good lease, but i assume as i dont know that that is with the current statdium owners who are about to go bust. So if IFL doesnt buy the stadium then we are at the mercy of whoever buys the latics, they will want to recoup money so our nice deal does out of the window.

at the moment the staduim will cost 4m and you get the latics free, but they are at least 5m in debt its tricky, a lot will play out this weekend as the self emposed deadline is Monday.

owning the stadium is a big big commitment, but the club can base itself there, train at robun park and have the rest of the club run out of the stadium. otherwise we have to wait and see who buys the tics, and what they want to charge us

Your stadium has sunk 10 feet into marshland since it opened, really?
