Re: Welsby : Thu Sep 22, 2022 1:58 am
I don’t know. Maybe History wasn’t his strong suit at school. To be the greatest you need to achieve something that no other club/person has done. First of all a team would need to win all trophies on offer in one season - that can’t happen. Secondly, Saints would need to beat the Aussies - they didn’t have the chance to do that to be fair. Thirdly, they need to consistently win all the trophies on offer over a period of years- they haven’t done so, only one Challenge Cup during that period. The greatest team is Wigan’s 1994/95 when they beat all comers when winning 5 trophies. That is ultra difficult because you have to peak at multiple times throughout the year not once. Now, if Welsby is claiming that if Saints win on Saturday makes them the most successful SL club (not team) in the last 26 years then I would have had no quibble with that. But that is not what has been quoted.

They’re the best side of the last 10 years or so but the game here is in the dumps. They’re not even close to being the best Saints side of the Superleague era and that’s if we go all Saints fan and ignore the 100 years before Superleague.

He’s a young kid in fairness, so his statement means very little, as his memory probably goes back to 2008-2010 at best.

He knew he was gone for the Grand Final the minute it was picked up. You could see the colour drain from his face.

Sad day for Wigan as Saints take another crown from us, reading other platforms they're now easily the most despised club in the game, sad times indeed.

The only reason they look up to you is because they chose to kneel.

Crazy isn’t it?! Anyone who has been involved or played in RL would say that what Knowles did was very, very naughty and much worse than Bateman’s head explosion on Friday. I don’t think any Saints fan could say this is the right decision with a straight face, but fair play to Woolf et al in recognising the spineless disciplinary and even chancing it!

What I will say is that it does, in a strange way, make me want to watch the game more; it’ll spur Leeds on I’m sure.

This just sums up how bizarre views can become when you fold in a heathy dollop of bias.
