I very much doubt that considering he has only just signed for Manly.

We made an inquiry by all accounts but had no chance of getting a working visa, this is prior to his move to Manly.

Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.

Please no IL! If Smith is going at the end of the season lets see where we are in terms of cap space with the departure of

Mathers
Coley
Phelps
Bailey
Smith

I also heard we were very close to signing Manly's 6 Bailey, who's the brother of our Phil Bailey.

I followed the Knights last year in the NRL an Chris Bailey is the stand off equivalent of their Phil, hard grafter, good at tackling but runs in harder. I personaly wouldn't want us to sign him as I dont think he would improve usas he doesnt organise well or break the line much like their Phil, we need someone like Lockyer who can handle the pressure and expectation to go with this fine club, is a proven winner with a champion mentality and would boost the crowds, boost the capabilities of the players around him in the same way Barrett did. If we have a team of Wigan lads with one or two superstars that would do me. Get Lockyer signed Mr Leneghan.

If only it were that easy

Lockyer would be perfect though I agree, would be that truly world class player that to be honest we don't have at the moment. He would give us class, leadership, organisation and a lot more. Would be fantastic experience for Sam as well :D

That scenario would be perfect. However we have Richards, Roberts and many others on 3/4 year contracts. This wont happen for a LONG time.

He has pace vision and agility, not sure he is an out and out 6, much better as a centre or 1. I personally think he would walk into any SL backline.

Would not be worth anything other than a contract for this season though so basically not a good signing long term for Wigan's needs.

Defensively is he better than Smith? I presume he is.

But if we were to sign McGoldrick, wouldn't that just be another block in Sam Tomkins route to the first team? He's a good player, I'm just not sure he is the right signing for Wigan, positional wise.

If we were to sign him i reckon it would be to play as an attacking fullback or centre so it wouldn't block Sam Tomkins.

Doubt us actually being in for him though.

I think if we have wanted him for as long as it has been rumoured we would have him by now

Can't say I'm dissapointed that he isn't wearing cherry and white though

I hear all of this, but I hoped we were moving into an era - or at least towards one - in which the only overseas players we got in were really, really good ones. It would be a backwards step IMO.

Totally agree see every post above on this topic from me. He is still a very good player but not a signing Wigan should ever be looking at.
