Noble wouldn't of gone IMO. He came to Wigan to help save us from relegation - which he did. Even if we did get relegated I reckon he would of stuck with us.

Personally I'd have hoped he would have. Included it because I know a few posters would have seen that as a plus ;)

But financially we would have been well out of pocket by more than the transfer fee paid for Fielden. We would have had to rebuild the backbone of the team, which for a club like Wigan is much easier said than done.

If we'd been relegated, it would have been catastrophic on so many levels - maybe, in some cases, more seriously than simply financial.

Relegation would have inevitably seen a big drop in our crowds. And just at the time when there were repeated calls by the football clique for us to be shown the door. The Latics pitch was a constant thorn in everyone's side. There was no sign then of us signing a 50-year lease to stay at the JJB. I don't like to think what might have happened if we'd been reduced to the level of NL1 nonentities.

There was so much at stake that season that I still get the chills thinking about it.

The knock on would've been felt around SL. Our Chairman was honest enough to say in 07? when you were arguing out of a potential 12 point deduction for your 06 SC issues, that he offered £20k towards your legal fees as the loss of wigan from our gates would be catastrophic for our finances

Well good on him nice to hear if its true. Only question i would have is why then would he not deal with the Wigan club first of all over Gleeson when we offered more than Warrington for him and he wanted to come to Wigan and second over Micky Higham when he had to go to Bradford before he came to Wigan??

Or was it after the change of owner at our club.

As SS says, the act was most likely born of selfishness, i.e. he didn't want Wigan to go under if it meant Saints losing out. I don't suppose the same thinking applied when it came to potentially strengthening Wigan.

However, I'm led to believe that McManus now gets on much better with Lenagan than he did with Mo.
