Re: So, who's going to replace Charnley? : Fri Apr 01, 2016 8:46 am
What annoys me about Burgess going to the Roosters is they clearly didn't need him and have just taken a punt on bringing over a Pom to see how he goes. He was one of the top wingers in SL and played in 2 of the 3 tests against NZ, he shouldn't be kicking his heels in reserve grade.

If he doesn't get many chances this year he's going to have to have a serious think about what he does for his own career. There are some very good English wingers in SL and if he wants to be playing for England he needs to be playing top flight rugby in either hemisphere. It'll obviously depend on how much he's enjoying living over there but I think now that Wigan need to replace Charnley there'll be a very good chance we'll see Budgie back in C&W next season.

I assume the inclusion of Jamie Foster on that list is relevant only because it's April Fool's Day?

Another option could be Gabe Fell. I knows hes still on the 'small' side, but hes got pace to burn, and can kick a bit. Anyone think he could convert from FB ?

If that happens and he doesn't perform we will have another couple of years of a 'Hampshire' saga. Fans vs Wane as to why he is out of position.

On the subject of Budgie. I spoke to him in a boozer just before the end of last season, nice lad, very polite but not very big. Tall yes but not very big. If you look at Aussie and NZ wingers they are built like second rowers there is no way Burgess is ready to defend against those types of players. I think the Roosters saw the obvious potential and hoped to get him bulked up. When i spoke to Pat Richards when he was here in comparison he was huge.

I totally agree, and I can't help wondering if this is causing Wigan a problem. For me, Budge is the best option ... but how long can we hang on until we know whether he's staying there or coming back here? We surely have to start re-recruiting soon?

I don't really want to see Carney here. it's kinda like Mourinho going to Old Trafford...

Not all NRL wingers are muscle men. I'd have thought Burgess was quite a bit bigger than David Mead, Valentine Holmes, RTS, etc etc. But when him going to the Roosters was first mooted, I assumed they were getting rod of Daniel Tupou. That doesn't seem to be the case, plus they have several other youngsters to fit in, so yes, it looks like they hardly need him.

It's been fun.

Re: Rumours and signings v9 : Fri Apr 01, 2016 1:46 pm
SL players going to NRL need to look at the rosters of the clubs interested in them, be realistic about your chances and pick a side not littered with talent in your position.

If you're the 2nd best SH in the world you still don't go to the Cowboys as you are 2nd fiddle to JT.

Go to he NRL but be realistic, some players are risking their long term careers for short term contracts and prestige.

But for some it works out. Who would have thought Mike Cooper and josh Hodgson would've flourished as they have?

St George and Canberra are mid table sides in the NRL.

That's another reason why I think Sarginson will do pretty well at the Gold Coast. He's going to play now if he'd have gone to the Roosters or Souths his chances would have been limited.

In fairness to Burgess his deal was signed and sealed before we over here had heard of Latrell Mitchell. He ripped it up for the Aussie schoolboys and then in the Aukland nines and seemed to steal a march on Burgess.
