Around about 1992, he was doing a charity walk and passed through Wigan.
He and his team called into the local ASDA and got some supplies; socks, plasters, sandwiches, drinks. When he was stopped from leaving and asked to pay he came out with the classic 'Don't you know who I am?'
My mum and the other ASDA workers present replied with all honesty 'No, should we?'
One of my mum's workmates thought he might be area manager or something like that
He, and to be fair a few of his team, argued that they shouldn't have to pay. Eventually someone wrote out a cheque and they went on their way. Wonder if that made it into his autobiography
