We are now in my view seeing the results of hyped up drivel by Sky pundits and a low salary cap situation where we will llose our best players. What is more apparent is the "built in" ball skills of the Aussie league players. All this rubbish about our league being faster and more skilfull is tripe. At present the Wigan side is the most unattractive side in the last 20 years so where does this "skilfull, attractive" stuff come from?
We are light years behind in method, fitness, application and worst of all effort. Our players have an easy life dishing up mediocrity.
Agree totally.
The issues with the SC have been highlighted by many on this board for a number of years now. The dumbing down of standards in SL is now a massive problem, which all the hype from Eddie and Stevo and the RL media more generally cannot disguise.
The problem is that when these issues are raised we get hordes of "my club first" Stains and others coming out with ridiculous anti-Wigan propaganda and denying that there is even a problem, so desperate are they to preserve the status quo. Usually we end up with 50 page threads, with page after page of ridiculous urban myths being trotted out by pro-SC propagandists.
Hopefully the silence so far on this thread means that even these people have realised that they can't keep up the pretence any more that the SC is working.
It may be - though personally I expect the big club dominance to continue - that the table at the end of the season will have smaller clubs near the top of the table (as we had back in the early 90s pre SC!).
Maybe this season or sometime in the next few years the "level playing field" will finally arrive - who knows, but all the evidence suggests that if it does it will be because standards at the top few clubs have fallen and that we will have a league composed of a few average sides and lots of poor sides. The old adage "be careful what you wish for" will never have been more true.
