I don't think the Brigantes are likely to attract an unsavoury element. As Wigan Peer said, we already had idiots who watch Wigan, the same goes for every Super League club. You'll find people like that in all walks of life, so it's nothing to worry about when it's only a few individuals.
Rugby league does seem to have a problem with admitting problems though. If someone misbehaves at a Wigan game the usual response is 'they aren't Wigan fans' or 'they aren't rugby fans'. Well the truth is they are. It's just like when there is crowd trouble and people say that it was probably football fans. No, it probably isn't, they are rugby fans attending a rugby match.
RL has very few problems with fans but it doesn't mean any problems have to be dismissed as being caused by some other group of people. Sorry for going on a bit of tangent, but it's still fairly relevant.

aboveusonlypie... If you don't bother to go to the game when you live in the locality then you are not really a fan and therefore your views are invalid. It's simple.

And it seems that the Brigantes have helped to bring this particular miscreant to book, or have i read it wrong.... Nurse is coming to bath me and get me ready for bed soon...
At the end of the day this isn't a thread to hurl abuse at the group.
The Brigantes were not formed for vandalism and anyone who says different is wrong. The group was created to improve the atmosphere at home and away with songs and displays.
Anyone who did ANYTHING wrong last night will be severely dealt with both by the club and the group.

I wasn't talking about the Brigantes in my last post but about rugby league in general. Sometimes any trouble people see at games is dismissed as being by people who aren't RL fans when they probably are.
I think the Brigantes are great with what they do, but they could perhaps do with some better PR.

Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good - sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league - Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate - the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever - Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go - Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know - FIOS
The group was created to improve the atmosphere at Wigan games. That is as far as it goes. We have been able to do that, the results are there for all to see. Anyone saying otherwise is just looking for an argument. We are not violent, we are not special. Weare merely Wigan fans trying to show colour and make some noise. If it does attract idiots then I hope we can police them and make them see there is other ways to have a good time. I would say there has been less idiot related issues since the Brigantes formed.
They guy who did the spraypaint is a LATICS fans, he is not even a Rugby fan. I can give you his facebook name if you like and you can go and have a look at the idiot for yourself.
Everyone was full of praise for us at the Saints away play-off, the atmosphere was terrific. Nothing has changed appart from an outsider trying to screw us over.
This anti-Brigantes brigade is getting pathetic. The atmosphere at away games especially has been terrific as are the flag displays, other fans of other clubs have commented on it time after time.
I would like to add, the culprit has rang the club and admitted what he did last night, the other person that was involved has been banned from the stadium for life, One of them WAS a Wigan fan, the other was not a Wigan fan.
Hang on - I'm not sure people are against that "The Brigantes" want to achieve. As I said earlier, the flags and atmosphere created has been great, certainly better than it has been in recent years. I applaud what they have done. Wigan RL is the world's premier RL club, and as such, needs a great set of supporters.
I hope that clears that up.
However, I think some people, myself included, aren't comfortable with this creation of a "label" to distinguish a bunch of people who appear (to some of us anyway) to want to be the 'elite' clique of supporters. To me it seems a bit childish in an "I'm more committed than you - look I'm a Brigante!" type of way.
I appreciate, however, that this may not have been the intention. But that's certainly the perception.
