could we not move sam back to 6 and give matty russell a chance at fullback?? he's learnt his trade in the under 20's and been apart of the grand final winning team for the last few seasons.... its no coincidence huddersfield are sniffing round him
Should defenitley get more young players to play next season. Did no harm to Saints.
Guys like Russell, King and Mellor have huge potential and we must get them some games. I'd be looking at Sam being flexible next year so that we can look at getting Russell some games at 1 and Mellor and Powell some games at 6 or 7. If Sam can shift between both spots if needs be it takes the burden off those young lads so they're not needed every week. By all means if they're ripping it up each week then play them but don't burn them out.
As for Joel going I hope to god we invest the money. We should get every last penny possible out of Saracens and then use this money to strengthen us. Due to our salary cap we'd probably need to look at more potentially very good players rather then ready made stars. I'd personally be heading over to Cas with a double cash bid for Joe Arundle and Daryl Clark. A young centre and a very classy young hooker to put pressure on McIlorum and allow us the option playing Tommy at scrum half.
I hate to say it though I think Lenagan will sit on it and there's every chance we'll go backwards a touch next year before we can kick on.
Charnley to 3 and a youngster/Roberts on the wing is certainly a solution in the backs, if we can find a backrower.
Id be looking around SL, to see if we can use the transfer fee well. Tony Clubb would be someone Id look into, as would Tom Briscoe or attempt a double raid on Castleford for Joe Arundle and Daryl Clark.
I dont see Marsh/Goulding ever being good enough, so I think we'd have to look deeper into our u21's to find players to make a Lomax/Gaskell/Charnley breakout.

There's no point in getting a fee if we don't spend it - I'm not interested in Clubb though, and Briscoe isn't a centre in a month of Sundays.
I'd like to see us be bold and throw any fee we get at someone like Yeaman, or failing that I'd happily see us pay a fee for Cudjoe or Arundel/Clark.

Good post that. We need to be brave with the younger lads, we havent got that much to lose with the playoff system as it is. The two from Cas look promising enough to me as well and in positions that are key for us to strengthen.
We cant afford to sulk with a load of money in the bank, we need to be proactive and get the money working for us.
Great game of rugby league. Fantastic atmosphere, Wigan were breathtaking and dominant in all areas for the first 25 minutes, coupled with us making alot of dumb mistakes, then fortunately they brought McIlorum on which helped us back into the game. I thought some of the tries we scored to get us within two we're out of this world stuff. Towards the end we had to force it a little and we had a few things go wrong, i.e Monas kick on the first for King and Solomona going off who was causing havoc. Wigan were clinical in their eventual execution of us. Proud of Wire today and gave us a little glimpse to the future. Silverwood was awful as per, but I expect no less. Tomkins is a world class player and by far the best english player in SL. Wigan are a champion side and would be a worthy winner of taking our title as challenge cup. Good luck over the next month and a bit.
With the money in the bank I'd use it for scouting, bringing more talent through....it's all we can do really.
