| No way would I give Carmont 2 years, 1 year with an option in the club's favour is surely the best we can offer.
Great bloke, great pro and a very good player on his day but far too risky to give him that length of contract.
If he insists on it, then we should give Goulding another shot and re-assess later.

Totally agree.
As much as I admire Carmont as a player and bloke, I don't think he's got a consistant two years in him.

If George thinks he can do 2 years then he can have a one year deal with a second year option in favour of Wigan, if he says he can do 2 years there should be no problem for his extension should there?

He wants two years with no strings attached and I think he wants this as that ties in with when his kids reach a certain point in their education. A one year deal means he would have to take his kids out of school at a very inconvenient time.
Now I know you can't run an RL club and sign players on that basis but I can see why he wants the two years.
Whether he should get two ought to depend on the expected development of younger centres at the club. If the club were anticipating one of them being given George's slot in 2011 then it can't really justify giving him a two year deal. If not then we have a hole to fill in 2011 so I'd rather stick with him.
He could of course offer to play for less in the 2nd year of the two year extension to see if that tempted the club. It would not tie up so much salary cap and allow him to share the centre spot with a younger player gradually easing the young player into the side.
I'd sooner have him on a two year deal than Bailey on the one year deal he has apparently got.

| I would give both Bailey & Carmont a one year deal. Then I would go for M. Cooper to replace George, and give Farrell more of a run out.

| I have give my thoughts on my blog with regards to George Carmonts contract.
Quote No Brainer - extend his contract. He is one of the best players in our squad and the best centre at the club and one of the best centres in super league. He is everything I expect of an overseas player. If he wants a bigger wage give him the reduced wage of Baileys original contract. He deserves it.
It would only be a one year option though for me for three reasons:
1. We have Darrell Goulding, Karl Pryce and at some point Ian Thornley who are coming through the ranks and you would hope one of them makes it!
2. He is slightly injury prone. That thigh has been giving him numerous problems throughout the season.
3. Age is not on his side. Although he didn't start his career till he was 26 he will be 32 when his contract is up for renewal in 2010.

No it's not. He is correct. I know Joe and Shaun (his Dad) Mellor personally and Shaun did work in coaching the Warrington Service Area. I know this because my brother played in the same team as Joe through the years and Scholarship Scheme and was once coached by Shaun.

Joe Mellor you mean? Can't really comment on him to be honest, never seen him play. But at the minute i would imagine Myler is a much better player and at a similar age, Myler will be a very good super league player and a wire will torment wigan for years to come, although Tomkins will still win!

| Of all of those I would say only Soliola would be classed as one we have missed out on (if Carmont goes).
He could have replaced Carmont who can probably only do one year (Thornley may not be ready for regular 1st team that soon) and played alongside Gleeson with Thornley making the step up when Gleeson leaves/retires.
However if Goulding or Pryce make the necessary step up then that plugs the gap. Equally Maguire could have someone in mind to bring in this season or next to replace Carmont (depending on when he leaves) and this would also plug the gap. So depending on what happens over the next few months we may not have suffered from "missing out" on him.
IMO the rest are either old and past their best
or would stifle the progress of up and coming young players in their positions
Or in some cases both of the above apply

| TBH i dont see no 'world class' signings there, possibly take any of the props because we are crying out for one, but any of them would be a rushed signing and i would rather us wait till the right persons available before signing a 30+ year old Fozzard or an Injury hit O'Meley.
We've already made the best signing of the year snapping Tomkins up for at least 5 years.
Im more happy with what we've got and if injurys occur then players like Davies, AInscough, Tuson, Farrell, Vievers, Mellor will get their chance. I think we will go really really well next year

No. I don't see anyone either. I really don't think much is up with our squad except the lack of a tactical kicking game in the halves. Experience hasn't helped us but we are getting there on that front.
BTW on that list - Moore isn't a St Helens signing, he has always been their player and played against us at the JJB for them, aged 16 way back in August 2004. He's just spent the last two years out on season long loans.
