I think what stood out for me about Tommy, last year especially, was his ability as a link up player at 2nd receiver. His decision making was top notch, especially compared to Finch when he played there. Give him a good structure and runners to play off and he's great. New Zealand Warriors game plan at the moment seems to be:
Step 1: Go up the middle for at least 3 tackles.
Step 2: Give it to Johnson.
Should all that fail: Kick

Tommy is an anomoly for me, his defence is superb but he doesn't do anything spectacular in attack on a regular basis. He isn't a great organiser, he isn't a great passer of the ball and his kicking is average at best, despite all that he's a good player and I've no idea why lol. It doesn't surprise me hes getting slated down under, for all the above reasons.

Tommy is a fantastic passer. His short and long distribution is top notch. Lets not forget the majority of his role last season was to slip the ball to Tomkins on the wrap around. After that he's hit some killer miss passes onto the winger.

He's got a top class running game as well. His ability to shimmy through the defence leaves a defending player in limbo as they can't always judge what he's going to do when the balls in his hand.

I'd have him back in a heart beat. A quality player to push either Smith or Mcilorum hard is exactly what we need.

IMO he was poor last year and many of us questioned his inclusion most weeks. This year he's been much improved so I would like to see him get a new contract but 5 years is way too much when you have Burke who is almost as good despite having far fewer games under his belt and Hughes and Lloyd who will both be pushing for spots. I'd give him 2 years to keep him on his toes. I'd hate to be stuck with the Tuson of 2012 for half a decade!

Totally disagree, he wasn't poor at all. He just didn't get anywhere near enough minutes to make the sort of impression he managed to make this year when starting games each week. He's a solid 7/10 player who will keep doing the same things week in week out and won't let you down. He won't start bouncing off defenders for fun, making storming breaks or scoring bags of individual scores but he will do the tough stuff in huge quantity. He'll take you in 3 or 4 carries a set if you asked him to, he'll throw himself in to every tackle and he'll try and support every half break. He's a workaholic that needs big minutes to be given the sort of recognition he deserves.

I do however agree 5 years would be excessive simply because we produce so many players. There's every chance guys we already have or will produce in the future will overtake him and if they do we may need to make cap space. Tuson may need to be sacrificed at some point but certainly not yet.

A three year deal would seem about right to me.

Wane's wife?

That really makes me wonder about the future of not only Tomkins but Wane himself. I said the other day if we offer Wane a lifetime deal he'd sign it but maybe we've yet to offer him anything and he's decided to make the first move.

Time will tell.

I cannot believe what short memories some have. Tommy was a top class player for us. He lacked a long kicking game, his short kicking game was good, he was a dynamic runner great passing game, and good organiser.

His defence was a real bonus.

Would have him back in a heartbeat.

Great player, World Champion and genuine leader. Would be a great asset to Wigan going forward.

I hope though he gets through this tough spell and shows exactly how good he can be for the Warriors.

agree with jonh.
have people forgotten last year ??
it was only when tommy was injured that we all TRULY appreciated what he added to the team. he's one of those under-rated players, who does all the hard work which is only truly appreciated in its absence. an anti-Sam if you want.
how could having him back hurt us ?? if it was an option, i'd take it

I'd have Tommy back in a heartbeat. If he is interested in coming back to SL I'd hope we are in the mix for him. I'd play him as a bench hooker though covering the halves when needed.

It's odd that the Sun carries a story that hasn't already been on these messageboards

That's a new one. Would love it to be true, I really rate Paea. We would have some real size again upfront with Paea and Powell.

I had heard Wire were looking at him to replace a Salford bound Adrian Morley.
