Its great to see isnt it, lads who are born and bred Wigan OR have come through the ranks at Wigan.
As much as Phil Clarke bores the life out of me sometimes, some of the figures he was coming out with where interesting, over 2000 lads in the Wigan area play ARL every weekend. There are 147 teams included in this (at all ages levels) and 27 open age ARL teams.
Currently: Tomkins, Tomkins, Hansen, Hock, Ainscough, Mcllorum, O'Carroll, Goulding, O Loughlin are what i would call first teamers, and only Goulding wasnt in the 17 last week.

The futures bright, the futures Wigan....
was great to hear the grass roots kids rugby mentioned on a superleague prime time game....was just a pity godwin broke his leg why clarky was in mid flow.
can i ask you one thing? i remember hearing it on commentary, but did he say 2000 LADS, or 2000 KIDS ? because theres a fair smattering of girls among those sunday morning teams.

I'm not 100% sure. "People" does sound more realistic though.

I've still got it recorded, will check it out when our maud's buggered off to bed!
We've always based our best sides around Wigan lads and in an era of a salary cap it's more important then ever to keep producing the best quality juniors we possibly can.
Ainscough and the Tomkins brothers look the business and theres the likes of Thornley and Farrell coming through behind.
If we're clever enough the salary cap and qouta reductions should play right into our hands.

Which of the Backyardigans do you think would make it into the current Wigan side? I'd like to see Tyrone at prop and Pablo at half back. Not sure about Austin. He looks too much like Mathers. In fact, thinking about it, I've never seen Austin and Mathers together which makes me think that they are the same person and Austin is just a stage name.
