The 22nd Wigan Beer Festival commences on Thursday, 19th March 2009 and will run for 3 consecutive days.

Thursday 5:30pm-11pm (£2 admission)
Friday 12pm-11pm (£1 admission before 6pm, £3 after 6pm)
Saturday 11:30am-Midnight (£2 admission before 6pm, £2.50 after 6pm).

The venue (Robin Park Sports Centre) is situated just over a mile from the town centre, next door to the JJB Stadium.

For food, the German Sausage Man will be providing bratwurst and crepes. Of course pies, peas, black pudding and chip barms will be available at all times.

There will be a wide selection of bitters, milds, stouts, porters, ciders and perrys plus continental ales and lagers.

All beers, wines and ciders are paid for using a beer token system. Simply get your beer tokens when you arrive at the festival and buy more as and when you need them.

For your entertainment, there is live music each evening and throughout the day on Saturday.

Thursday, 19th March 2009 at 19:30
PHUNK - a popular local 4-piece funk band

Thursday, 19th March 2009 at 21:00
HEY ZEUS - a local outfit specialising in indie rock

Friday, 20th March 2009 at 19:30 and 21:30
BILLY & THE TEMPREMENTALS - a six-piece band of local stars.

Saturday, 21st March 2009 at various intervals throughout the day
GOOD CITIZENS - back by popular demand, Irish/Folk/Country music with Cajun roots

Please note, Friday afternoon is a 'quiet session' where no entertainment will be provided

Click Here for more on this.

Think the "quiet session" before travelling to Salford sounds good.

Incidentally there are "Free" (well voluntary donation) bus transfers from outside the Anvil on Hallgate (opposite where the Job Centre used to be by the Bus Station) and they come back as well.

I can accept failure, but I can't accept not trying.

No known famous fans. Town apparently goes into hibernation when rugby league season ends.

OMG  That's why I associate Fezzies (if thats a word!) with the Beer Engine. Could never figure it out until now, Sons of the Desert everywhere
In my defence I had usually had too much Wobbly Bob

A mate of mine (not me, OHHHH NO....) once swamped himself after a night supping that at the Beer Engines fest. Literally too Wobbly to get out of bed and make it to the bog in the night. Disgraceful scenes...

If my memory of that brew is correct, they would only serve it in half pint measures, hence the phrase " two halves of Wobbly Bob in that pint glass, pleaaasssshhhheeee", coined by my mate known forever since as Wobbly Bob
