We’ve apparently offered Hastings an NRL get out clause to tempt him in to signing. What that means I’m not sure but I just hope it’s something only available at the end of a season and not mid way through. If he signs then goes home within a couple of months we’ll be stumped.

All supposition on my part. It seems that Leeds won’t budge on a NRL release clause. I don’t think he’ll sign without one so the question is do we want him for next year & possibly more or not at all. If neither is or Leeds will offer a clause then he’ll re-sign for Salford.

Hastings has the most try assists this year in SL - don't think we can afford to turn him down based on the length of contract.

What’s the point in signing someone who clearly doesn’t want to be here long term. He’s treating super League as some kind of NRL sabbatical.

We'd better get used to that, for better or worse.

Pretty standard procedure by players coming over from the NRL and it’s becoming more common for our home players to now target playing in the NRL and you can’t blame them as it’s the pinnacle of rugby league and where the big money can be earnt. At least Hastings is being upfront with his intentions and we can plan round them as best as we can.

Sadly to say I think your right. Super league needs a massive change to stop it from being the NRL feeder league that it currently is.
But I think the salary cap would need to go for that to happen and considering the majority of the super league clubs wants to keep it then we will just have to continue to exist as a sport.

Removing salary cap wouldn’t help unless the chairmen of all clubs were willing to pay big bucks for the best players. The cap in Oz is fives times higher than ours so raising it by a million pounds a year won’t stop the drain. We’d still only have the same pool of players to choose from, they’d just be earning more money. However it still wouldn’t be as much as they can earn in the NRL.

It's not like we've got a choice. We're losing George, and if we don't sign someone good to replace him, what exactly does that leave us with?

A short time ago, we heard that JH only wanted a year.

A year and a bit is better than that. We need to do it.

The NRL cap is 5.35m next season and ours is 2.1 plus we have the marquee ruling, factor in the cost of living being considerably more I think upping our cap by a million would help a lot.
