So it's ok then! : Tue Sep 17, 2013 8:48 am
Tony Smith said in his press conference Lee Briers was in order to take matters in his own hands when he hit Ablett from behind as the referee did nothing about the high tackle previously..... funny..... I didn't think that was in the Rugby League Manual, so no yellow no red no ban ..mmmm

"I'll get my big guys to take out there play makers if Sam isnt protected more."

Was that ok too?

Has he been called up before the disciplinary? Is there a more
cowardly act than punching someone in the back of the head when they aren't looking? It just shows what a little scumbag he really is.

Yes. It's on the RFL site. Grade A offence.

Yes Wane has said as much.....i remember him doing his Donkey Kong impression :D in an interview about it.

Here is something on the BBC about it:

Also one from the Mirror

Stop being so bloody soft.

Self-defence or defence of a team-mate is one thing. But Briers was grabbed by the back of the shirt. There was nothing wrong with that tackle. His violent response was to something that pillock Ablett said to him. So is it okay to throw punches when someone says something you don't like?

Eyeball Swiveller needs calling up himself for those comments.

It is NOT okay to chuck punches on a rugby pitch just because you've been made to a look a prat. Savy?

ALL WIGAN SUPPORTERS MUST

1. Wigan must not win a hard fought struggle in appalling conditions, nilling the opposition and scoring 16 points, because that makes for the worst CC Final of all time.
2. Wigan must not get to the final by nilling the opposition and scoring 70 points with a display of attacking rugby because that makes for the worst CC Semi Final of all time.
3. Wigan players must not consider winning the game but devote all their efforts to entertaining neutral fans. Just like all the other teams do...
4. Wigan fans must not mention winning the CC Final, as that is arrogant.
5. Wigan fans must not mention winning the Challenge Cup 19 times, or indeed any other Trophies, as that is very arrogant indeed.
6. Wigan fans must not attend actual games. It is now compulsory to stay at home, watch on TV and moan about how low attendances at games are.

I cant help but think back to Magic Weekend last year, with the biff. When Maginess (sp) hit Tuson when his back was turned and Tuson battered him. Didn't the dirty Stains player get a 3 or 5 match ban(cant remeber which it was). In my eyes there wasn't much difference.

I've absolutely no problem with it, so long as the next time someone does the same sort of cowardly act they get treated exactly the same.

However we all know that won't happen. All I want to see is a bit of consistency. When you look at some of the sending off's and bans we've seen in the past for similar incident's it doesn't help.

I'm not a big fan of Ablett either but I didn't think that tackle was bad enough to warrant briers trying to clobber him one.

with some very big games still to come in the playoffs it will be interesting to see what happens the next time someone throws a punch.
