Shaun Wane Article on BBC Website : Tue May 14, 2019 10:39 am
Here's a first, Wires fan starts new topic on Wigan forum.

No, I'm not in the wrong place (you may disagree), just read excellent article on BBC Sport RL page about Shaun Wane's childhood.

Very topical in mental health week, and with rumours of a return to SL circulating, but a great read for RL and.non-RL fans alike. Changed my opinion of him somewhat.

Check it out. Or tell me to f*** off back to my own forum, your choice.

I'm a wire fan and have the upmost respect for Wane. Massively underrated as a coach. What he achieved during his time in charge of Wigan with the players at his disposal was unbelievable. If Leeds don't approach him after sacking furner they need their heads examined

It’s a great listen and I fully agree he’s vastly underrated as a coach and I’ll include myself in that at times.

Some people remain unimpressed with his achievements simply because they got on his case when he was first appointed (Wiganer will never be as good as an Aussie etc), and so didn't want to lose face by getting off his case when he started winning cups for us, or even after he left and was replaced by someone else who proved to be much less effective with equally limited resources.

Great listen and let’s be fair it’s only now, perhaps everyone including all Wigan fans can see how good a coach he really is and was.

He will be back in the sport of that I’m certain

Was with you all the way to that last sentence... Lam has less resources that Waney.

I agree, Wane never had a worse backroom roster or playing roster, I do think he would be doing better than Lam though at this stage, and would love him back.

I was a huge fan of Waney but I was ok with him leaving. I think most coaches in most sport have a shelf life and I was ready for a change. We all know the season started badly (very badly) but I wouldn’t want Wane back.

I know what you mean. I think we are missing the grit the players had under Wane

Watching Rugby League

Re: Shaun Wane Article on BBC Website : Wed May 15, 2019 10:22 am
His motivational skills are second to none. He had players willing to run through walls continuously. That is what got us over the line time and time again.

The rugby on display was poor to watch for the majority of the time but when it mattered we always had the edge despite probably not being as good man for man because we wanted it more.

He also learned after 2012 that the league season/table meant next to nothing if you couldn't deliver come September/October time. From about May (after Magic) onwards in 2013 we were dreadful aside from the 5 games we needed to win to with the double. In 2016 he openly said after a heavy defeat at Warrington that he didn't care and knows where we will be at the end. Those things are why fans are leaving the sport and not just Wigan but are part of why he was good at what he did.
