You've lost me on Gelling. I'm not saying he belongs in the best team but he's nowhere near the worst. Bailey, Aspinwall, Hodgson, Vaealiki all far more deserving.

Tomkins
Robinson
Connolly
Renouf
Richards
Barrett
Lam
Smith
Newton
Fielden (fantastic in 2006, one of the main factors we survived)
Betts
Bateman
Faz (c)
--------------

Honourable mentions to Lockers (tough to chose between him and Andy Faz, but I have to give it to Faz) Gaz Hock, George Carmount.

Agree with Fielden if we are just going off his first half season with us rather than his whole time, in that case I'd make a case for Amos Roberts as well. If we're going off players' whole time at Wigan then I'd be considering Fielden for the other team. He was incredible in 06 though as you say.

I agree, I was a going off 'top performances at the DW' sort of thing. And yes, Roberts before his devastating injury was ripping up SL as a FB, but... I'd still but Sam higher at his best, both could rip through a defence like a knife through butter, but, in my opinion, Sam's passing game and creativity was that bit better.

You're right regarding Fielden, went from being a handful on every carry, to plodding performances. I always wondered if Bradford burnt him out using him as a 80 min prop. Additionally I remember him having a terrible off-season, getting chinned by Willie Mason and losing his mother; so sad for him.

Wasn't the original article asking for fans to vote for their favourite players, Not top performances

For worst I'd go:

1. Mathers
2. Aspinwall
3. Brown
4. Vaealiki
5. Colbon
6. T.Smith
7. Moran
8. Bibey (C)
9. Riddell
10. Lauaki
11. Hughes
12. Bailey
13. Tickle

14. Dudson
15. Higham
16. McAvoy
17. Nu'uausala

I'm just picking players who were first choice for at least a season, it feels like a cop out throwing in guys who didn't play that much. It was hard to pick the back row, we've always seemed to do very well in that position. The rest picked itself. Interestingly Brown, Higham and Hughes did well elsewhere. Special mention to Calderwood, who missed out through one incredible defensive performance in his last game for us, otherwise he would be a shoe in.
