Special mention to Calderwood, who missed out through one incredible defensive performance in his last game for us, otherwise he would be a shoe in.

Don't forget his 2nd half hat trick at Bradford that kept us in the 2007 playoffs, 30-6 down at ht, but came back to win 30-31!

For me Faz is probably the most important player of the last 20 years. He was simply massive for us.

I decided to pick piggy and Green as they won the grand final and i didn't pick Andy Farrell through personal choice as it goes back to a castleford away game when jack Robinson was chairman and my late father wished to speak to him Farrell threatened both myself and my late father not a nice person

I think hes just asking the question pal, no ulterior motives.
I suppose the thread is subjective as it says favourite players, not best etc.
On our WhatsApp group I picked Richard's and Dallas over Robinson, mainly because they both played 6/7/8 seasons at the DW whereas robinson only one.
I wouldn't for a second say either were better than Robinson.
I picked carmont and gildart over Connolly and renouf, mainly because they've won more and played far more at the DW so more than likely going to have given me more moments. Neither of them match Connolly & Renouf over their whole careers
I debated Mickey Mac over Newton as hes won more, but I just went for Newton as he did play a lot of games and I remember more "Highlights".
As I say "All subjective" and my guess is that the reply was because the poster thinks that newton/barrett/Faz were better players (which i would agree with), but that want the question so everyone is entitled to their own favourites.
WhatsApp post below.

My team
Going slightly a different way and looking at how long they played and consistency

Tomkins
Dallas
Gildart
Carmont
Richards
Barrett
William's
Smith
Newton
O'Connor
Farrell
Farrell
O'loughlin

Notable mentions who only just missed out not picked by Jonny or me.

Wow calm down a bit pal. Are you always this prickly when someone asks you a question? As the poster above said, I was genuinely interested and just wanted to 'chew the fat' about some great Wigan players - nothing more in it than a healthy debate.

I didn't pick up on Rads Vs Tomkins because it's a difficult one. You can only pick one at FB and, whilst both are deserving, it's hard to accommodate both without looking at Sam @6. Faz on the other hand could have played 8, 10, 11, 12 or 13 so there's five slots to pick what is, imo, our greatest ever forward.

You have your reasons tho and they seem personal, so no argument from me.

Re: 1-13 at the DW : Thu Sep 12, 2019 9:31 pm
Late to the party so one does apologies;

1. Radlinski
2. Dallas
3. Renouf
4. Gleeson
5. Richards
6. Barrett
7. Lam
8. Craig Smith
9. Newton
10. Pongia
11. L Farrell
12. A Farrell
13. O’Loughlin

Rads over Tomkins purely because of what he did for us in 2006. Genuinely no other reason, it just shows what type of man Rads was in that he’d bleed cherry and white. I’m not convinced Tomkins was ever the same.

Choosing between Gleason and Carmont was a very tough choice too. I couldn’t actually give a reason why I went for Gleeson because I liked him as a player as much as I did Carmont.
