It’s the whole not offloading business that did me. Wane doesn’t like the offload either. If we were to have a new coach it would have to be someone who lets their teams express themselves and throw it about a bit.

Just give Adrian Lam the job. That seemed to work well at Wigan.

Have to say I agree with Enforcer on this. I wasn't a fan of his appointment in the first place. It's a long time since he's done anything special in the NRL (at Souths he has inherited an already good side). And I don't like his grumpy mug as the face of rugby league.

Me either. His facial expression matches his coaching style, dull and boring and so 2002 in style when teams were trying to play the Chris Anderson flat attack which was equally dull and boring then as it is today. How many times did Tonga knock our final passes down due to our players being stood so flat?

We got to the WC final by way of a last second ref error. If we had played an extra 80 minutes we wouldnt of scored a try in the final.

We beat an under strength NZ team on home soil. Dont forget they thumped us in the final game.

The players worshiping him is more to do with his over inflated reputation. If he is the coaching genius they make him out to be why dont Australia want him coaching the national team? They realise he is bad for the team and is still stuck in the early 00's playing a similar brand of flat attack rugby that Chris Anderson brought in. I would say he has stabilised the performances of the national team and we are a bit more consistent than we were but it ends there, we are just consistently ok and never brilliant and also lack passion, a bit like Bennett himself.

He coached Australia to a WC win no less. He’s also one of the most decorated coaches in RL. Listen to the players speaking about him on podcasts/TV/radio or in paper columns, it’s blindingly obvious it’s not because of his “over inflated” reputation. Quite the opposite.

On one hand you’re saying he’s done nothing for the national team and then the other saying he’s stabilised performances and made us more consistent. You can’t have it both ways.

The SF refereeing is utterly irrelevant. We dominated that game for 60mins and completely deserved the victory.

The NZ was the strongest available. It wasn’t chosen weakly nor was it a weak side.

I don’t envisage him being England coach much longer, age more than anything. Nor do I see him being GB coach in 4yrs. The next England coach IMO should be none other than Shaun Wane. It’ll fit his new lifestyle perfectly.

Correct Warrior. Shaun Wane is tailor made for that job and would get every ounce out of them.

Clutching at straws. Stabilsing the team and making them consistently ok rather than ever being brilliant is not good enough.

Of course players talk him up. Hes been around for decades and won an awful lot in his earlier career. Hes got a great history with him, players are bound to look up to him and take in what he is saying but that doesnt mean what he is saying is of any use in the here and now.

My other beef about Bennett is the suspicion (which, to be fair, his demeanor does little to dissuade you from) that he largely took the England/GB job out of pique because he'd fallen out with the NRL/ARL bigwigs over there. I would like a coach who really wants the job, and not because it's part of some ongoing feud with Mal Meninga or whoever.

Hardly. You said he hadn’t done anything for England, I point out he has (using your own words) and then in response you say I’m clutching at straws?

I sense this would be difficult for you but actually listen to what the players say about him and you’ll realise that your opinion of why they think that way about him is completely wrong.

But you won’t do that as it wouldn’t fit your continued negative agenda.

Bennett's coaching of Aus, after a brief spell in 1998, lasted 2 years( 2004/2005) and included the first International series loss in 27 years. That series loss in the Tri-nations featured the biggest loss in a final match for nearly 100 years( v NZ losing 24-0). His behavior on returning to Aus from the series did not win him any friends as instead of meeting the assembled press at the airport he left by a back entrance avoiding any comment. Soon after he resigned.

Am not a fan of Bennett although I have to concede he is a great man manager. I believe his swansong will be after the 2020 Kangaroo tour.

I was wrong on that post - he helped NZ win the WC and indeed wasn’t an Australian WC winning coach. My mistake.

It’s in the air as to whether WB will be England coach for the Australia tour. One would assume he’d love a proper crack at them in a series and a series win before stepping down as a final “F you” to the ARL. I’d like him to stay on personally but equally I’m open to seeing who else wants the job and if it were to become available Shaun Wane should be a strong favourite.

Making us consistently just OK/average is not an achievement. Gone is the passion that we used to get from national teams of the past in favour of this dour, stale and robotic low risk rugby. If you are happy with that then you are easily pleased.

Players are star struck by him simply because he has such a high reputation based on his early career achievements. there is no doubt that he is a legend in his own right but he is way past his sell by date and does not have the luxury of having all the best players available to him anymore. He has a lot to thank the likes of Lockyer, Hancock, Renouf, Sailor, Walters x2, Langer, Webke, Lazerus and Tallis for (im sure ive missed plenty out). Who couldnt win everything with those players?

Why must i have an agenda because i give my opinion? Would you like me to dress up a pigs foot in a fur coat? I call things as i see them, if you dont like it its tough.

He was brought in to take the national team to the next level which he has failed to do. The only thing papering over the cracks is the lucky escape we had in the WC semi against Tonga which afforded us a shot at the Aussies in the final but as i said earlier, we could of played an extra 80 minutes and still wouldnt of scored a try.
