‘In the 1980s, Stamford Bridge was a hotbed of racism. The National Front sold their magazines in the Fulham Road and used to wait in the pub opposite to learn the team selection. If they (the Chelsea players) were all-white, the National Fronters used to walk across and buy their tickets. ‘Our technical director Gwyn Williams introduced the first black kid, one Paul Canoville, a pacey young winger. His first experience was when Chelsea played at Selhurst Park. As a sub, he was warming up and had bananas thrown at him. ‘The following week, he made his debut at Stamford Bridge and got a lot of abuse. At the end of the game, I went on the pitch and walked off with my arm round his shoulder.

There was a Chelsea fan on here who was praying that Joe Cole would go to Liverpool, because he hated Liverpool and felt that them signing him would be a poor signing - even on a free.
Can't think who it was though.
But blaming Joe Cole because you get turned over at home by Swansea City??? For me it's another barrel scraper from a manager who is being found out because he's taken on too big a job, too soon. Sure, Joe Cole is an easy target. He's ex-CFC, he's on a huge salary and offered practically nothing in return for it. You're not losing much if you hang him out to dry because he's got practically nothing to give anyway. But to me I think the rest of the LFC squad will see that he's simply pushing a player forward to take the hits that could be coming for him otherwise.
Not sure who blamed him for the result? Read the quotes and they seem to be quotes attributed more towards Cole in general, rather than blaming him for the defeat. Singling somebody out for criticism when it's warranted is perfectly OK IMO. Cole is a joke, his time here has been a joke and I couldn't care less where he goes. He seems an OK bloke who doesn't strike me as a bad influence, he simply isn't up to scratch and doesn't seem to try enough get back to where he once was.

Rodgers went on about how he only had Joe Allen in midfield because Joe Cole was so slow and had to bring on Gerrard and the Suaz to compensate.
If Cole is so bad, why did he play so well last season? If it's just an 'I don't want to be here' reaction from him, that should have been spotted in pre-season and dealt with, either by giving him away to another club or negotiating his release. If he hates Liverpool so much, he would have accepted a settlement no doubt.
Liverpool not having enough players to rest Gerrard, Allen and Suarez is their own fault and Rodgers needs to stop playing the violin card as it makes the club look even worse. Can you see now how horrendous a job Kenny Dalgleish did at Liverpool? He set you back at least 5 and probably as much as 10 years with the signings he made.
The lad is dogshit and isn't capable of playing to any of the standards required. He's slow, unfit, lethargic and his touch is poor. His passing is average and his movement is embarrassing.

The thing is, how good was he actually? Throughout his career he's mainly been moments of brilliance in predominantly OK performances. He made his name as the main playmaker in the infamous West Ham side that was 'too good to go down' but promptly did, and I personally think he can thank England's lack of a left-sided player for gifting him an international career he scarcely deserved. Apart from a couple of good seasons during Chelsea's best period in recent years, he's always been little more than a fancy-dan luxury player.

It's almost as bad as the job he did at Newcastle.
