£563m spent. The best technical bid. The best economic bid. The future king, the PM and football's biggest icon all presented what was described as the best presentation.

All we get is two votes!

Is it really worth trying again, it obviously does not matter what we do.

As if international football wasn't already deteriorating enough, Fifa go and embarrass the game by allowing the world cup to be hosted by two nothing countries.

BBC revealing the corruption was the first step, but the indefensible voting results go to show how corrupt it is. I hope the world cups in Russia and Qatar go on to be just as farcical as the world cup hosted in SA.

How did Australia get less votes than 3 others that have hosted 2 of the last 5 world cups

Agreed. In fact that's giving the conspiracy talk more credence than us missing out IMO. Of the 5 up for it, Australia should have been a certainty. That they went out first with only a single measly vote is just a bad joke.

Billionaire Arabs and Russians bankrolling our clubs is fine but it is outrageous that they should want a piece of the action on their own turf.

A few sour grapes on here tonight then? Asim is spot on. The Premiership has been improved immeasurably by imported money. When England have to stand alone they fail miserably.

Imagine claiming that the best players in the world play in England..... What a joke.

Aye, that Xavi is not a patch on Shawcross.

3 players in the Prem got shortlisted for World Player of the Year, 1 of 'em (Gyan) had never played in the Prem when he was shortlisted! The other two? Spanish and Ivorian. Face it guys, you are third rate and it not only us Scots who cannot stand you.

Don't feed the prick. He was wetting himself when Russia was announced. Scotland can't even hold their own 'top flight' games this weekend, let alone a world cup, we're capable just been let down by corrupt bastards at FIFA. His avatar says it all 'Dundee United - Keep the faith!'

Why anyone is surprised that the corrupt FIFA executive led by the England-hating Blatter came up with this result is beyond me. We never stood a chance.

Re: The Football Chat Thread : Fri Dec 03, 2010 1:34 am
Why, when England lose something, do they harp on about being better than Scotland "at Least"? Don't think anyone's ever held a claim saying otherwise. Scotland are a tiny nation with a crap domestic league, most Scots know that. At least they can admit it.

Obsessed.

Also, why's everyone suddenly forgotten how bent the FA are and how much rubbish they've spouted in their build up to it. The World Cup wouldn't have benefited anyone but the corporate types, big teams and happy clapper fans that never go to a game anyway, and won't after.
The FA almost fined and warned 2 non-league clubs for celebrating getting to finals by invading the pitch...they then used that footage in one of their promo videos to show 'how great' everything is. They can all get bent.

Having said that... England have been robbed and the process is stupid/corrupt.

Cant say I'm that surprised about the 2018 decision, or particularly outraged. After South Africa turned out to be not the disaster that many predicted, it seemed likely that FIFA would be more adventurous in their chioice of venues. There is some justification in holding the WC in eastern europe rather than returning to a western european country, particularly ones that have already hosted it.

The Qatar decision is just mind boggling. A huge gamble.
