Rooney's statement is spot on. Will hopefully open a few peoples eyes to whats going on at OT.

Re: The Football Chat Thread : Wed Oct 20, 2010 9:42 pm
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has admitted Wayne Rooney's desire to leave Manchester United could mean his star striker Fernando Torres is targeted by their arch-rivals.

"I think I'd have to say we'd cross that bridge when we come to it," said Hodgson when asked about the threat of United possibly trying to sign Torres.

"I am pretty sure when a great player like Wayne Rooney is looking to leave his club, Manchester United will be in a position to target an awful lot of players around the world.

"I don't think Fernando Torres would be the only player they will be targeting or [we would be] the only club worried their star striker is going to be a target.

"They will have the opportunity to replace him with many star strikers around the world, so all I can say is I am not naive to the situation.

"I am not naive enough to think there is no danger we will ever lose a player like Fernando Torres.

"I can only hope we won't and I will make certain I do everything in my power to keep him happy at the club, help him improve his current form and to get him playing for Liverpool as he has in the past."

Hodgson must stay.

I missed the game tonight, what did Mr Bale do that was so outstanding? I've always like him, very much a rich man's Leighton Baines for me.

I've just read Rooney's statement. Whoever wrote that is a genius. They knew he had thoroughly ruined his relationship with the fans of the club he'll have to be with until at least January, so they release a statement blaming the Glaziers and the lack of spending on players and try to turn it into a positive for him.

If anything I can see Rooney being even more popular with the fans and them banging the door down for new signings.

Still think the story has a long way to go yet.

LOVE UNITED - HATE GLAZER

"DEBT IS THE ROAD TO RUIN" - David Gill, August 2004

Malcolm Glazer - Forever in your DEBT

Re: The Football Chat Thread : Wed Oct 20, 2010 9:56 pm
The one time Rooney needed good advising and his people delivered big time. Showing massive respect to Sir Alex, whilst playing to the United fans by blaming Judas and the Glazers. At least his statement makes it more likely that he could play for United again before he is sold.

I agree with Merson that it is likely Rooney has been tapped up, although he knows that any number of the top / rich clubs will sign him in an instant.

We'll miss his work rate, his passion, his commitment, and last season's goals. He isn't as hard to replace as Ronaldo was, as without Valencia in the side, his goal threat was significantly reduced. Although, whereas when Ronaldo left, we got Valencia, who was able to assist Rooney to score 30+ goals, with Rooney I can't honestly see us replacing him with anyone. Now that we know Rooney told Gill before August, it backs up the claims by Craig f*cking Bellamy that we tried to sign him. If signings like Bellamy are what we can look forward to, we are truly f*cked.

Rooney at Madrid would make an even more awesome strike line up for them, and make them pretty unbeatable. I can understand Mourinho wanting him to stay at United for life, as he wants Fergie's job, but I'd rather he love off to Spain rather than be a c*nt like Tevez.

No doubt David Gill will come out and stress that there are millions of pounds to be spent on new players and that the Glazer's are super-duper owners, with Fergie following suit pretty soon after. The truth is, the thing that is worse about this situation, is we'll sell him for £20-£35million, Uncle Malc and sons will buy a few more mansions, and we'll be left to sign an unknown kid off the street in Glasgow. Ideally we'll get a decent swap deal with Madrid, but that won't be good business for Malc.

Rooney's had some brilliant years at United in one of our most successful on-field eras. It's a weird feeling that by the end of this season, the heroes of the 90s will have all left United, along with the heroes of the 00s. The next decade is going to be a long and painful one, especially if we have to wait until 2017 to get rid of the Glazers. I just hope that teams like Chelsea and Arsenal can keep competing to keep City away from glory for as long as possible, because we're just going to be the "almost theres".

The team that played tonight could well be our 'star' lineup next season with VDS, Neville, Scholes, Giggs and Rooney all departing, and if (with respect) it struggles to beat Bursaspor at home, we haven't got a chance.

Apparently, Liverpool are in the running to buy Rooney.

I was talking to Roy Hodgson last night and he told me "Wayne will be here soon". He then walked off as the heavens opened.

Me: I'm still reeling from the news that someone is considering watching the 1st and 3rd game on Saturday and NOT watching Warrington play. It's like being in Shea Stadium when the Beatles came to town and deciding to nip out for a fag.

knockersbumpMKII: Is it FOOK, you're good but you're not THAT good, jesus you wanky fans need to get over yourselves, Beatles at the Shea in '65 was a once in a lifetime opportunity for some (despite the following years performance), you can watch a very good team in primrose & yellow play every week if you really wanted to but comparing it to one of the very best music groups of all time in an iconic stadia such as the shea is overegging your importance, you're not even the best team in SL atm

The thing that strikes me is the marked contrast in the way that United are handling the Rooney situation compared with the way they dealt with Ronaldo. Everyone knew that Ronaldo wanted away 2 years before he left club. Yet the player and club seemed to co-exist quite well during that time and were extremely successful.

By contrast they seem determined to bring the Rooney situation to a head as quickly as possible and at the worst possible time for them. Given all that has been said over the last two days its difficult to envisage Rooney playing again for United unless he makes a complete, humiliating climbdown. Something which would seem to be out of character for him. Which would leave United without their best player for more than two months before they can replace him. The timing just seems very odd.

Excellent post Paddy. I said a few pages back that this will be Fergie's toughest job yet as he is not only having to build a team without being able to make big money signings but the cubs he will be competing with have money to burn. Fergie does have this vision about young players but I do believe he will make some signings to replace VDS, Giggs and Scholes, the question is on what level will we make those signings? If we look to sign two or three top players then combined with the youngers players we have and Fergie's pedigree we have a chance.

Right now though with the Rooney issue and the fact that we have recently lost Ronaldo we no longer have any X factor type players and the way the owners are running the club it seems unlikely that we will get any. We may get soemone to replace Rooney just to appease the fans but I am not holding my breath.

I'm not sure Rooney will play again for Utd but i'd like to think he will. He can't go anywhere until at least January and I sincerely hope he goes abroad or if he stays in this country I would rather it be Chelsea than City. I do have sympathy with what Rooney has said but it was only 3 months ago he wanted to stay for life and we just missed out on 4 PL titles in a row last season so his timing is very odd. Maybe it's the lure of £250k a week, afterall he needs the money!

I also wonder if there is a chance he might stay, afterall he has only attacked the owners and not Fergie, the players or fans so I think there is still a chance no matter how small. I guess there is also a chance he won't ever wear a Utd shirt again and be sold in Jan. Either way our season seems to be up in smoke now as last night was awful and whilst we have Berba, Giggs, Schole and Rio to come back it still does not look enough to challenge for anything other than perhaps the two domestic cup competitions.

Loads slashed be even worse tonight no doubt Uefa will do jack as always though unlike if it happened over here.
