All we need now is to get rid of the central midfield and the forwards and we will be rocking! :D

Anything that speeds the departure of Neil Lennon and I'm all for it. The man is so old, he gets Horlicks at half time, FFS.

Agree we need some new signings next season especially up front.

IMO We need to hang on to:

As DD has already said, the midfield needs a bloody good shake up. Nakamura we should hang on to but the rest are liabilities ATM.

The Celtic fans (and the manager's) obsession with an increasingly ineffectual Neil Lennon is holding the club back. I still maintain it's a sympathy vote based upon the amount of sectarian abuse he gets from elsewhere.

The job Lennon does is simply not required in a side that should be dominating games. He is the kind of player you need when you are on the back foot and you are trying to break down the opposition's play. Celtic should rarely be in this situation in the SPL. They should be playing midfielders that ask questions of the opposition, not the other way round.

Strangely, this season's Celtic side has been the worst they have had in almost a decade for me. They continually get outplayed by inferior opposition and have scraped through almost every game by playing well below par, thanks to individual moments from the likes of Nakamura's set pieces and McGeady's trickery. If Rangers had been even remotely decent this year, the league would have had a different outcome.

Playing a left footer on the right wing and a right footer on the left wing, alongside two holding midfielders, and with rubbish like Miller and Beattie up front, is something that cannot continue next year. Celtic are stumbling over the finish line, and they will get there, but there needs to be a big shake up for it to continue, and there most certainly is a change of tactics required, where the team go and attack the opposition, run at them down the wings, try to pass forward and take the man on, rather than this shuffle sideways and hope to thrive off a few free kicks and throw-ins nonsense.

This season has been packed with warning signs and there are far too many players in the first team pool (Lennon, Beattie, Caldwell, Miller, Telfer, Jarosik etc) who should not be at a club the size of Celtic.

Agree with DD about everyone but Jarosik.

The guy is class. Its just he's used to playing with better players than at Celtic. So when he passes a ball, which usually gets mopped up by a Dunfermline centre-half, its because the forwards fail to realise what he's trying to do.

Keighley RLFC - Keep The Faith

: Sun Apr 08, 2007 10:29 pm
Quick update, Celtic looked poor yesterday and Riordan finally got a chance when Zurawski limped off injured yet again. Celtic won 1-0 with a Riordan goal against Motherwell.

The team cannot motivate themselves when the league was won at Halloween.

I am annoyed with the way the team are playing in tactics. The defending is way too deep and our defenders are forever standing off, rather than pushing up like they were at the start of the season. Hesselink and Riordan should have been up front all season and Miller who is not a striker should have been battling for a place on the wing as he would be better in this position.

Anyway, one more win in the SPL and that's it. I think we should be really cocky though and purposely give our youth players the chance of experience until we play at Ibrox and win the league there or of course we could play the rest of the season with ten men, giving Lennon a errr.... much needed break. Lennon should be at the end now, but he'll want another season out of us for sure. He's way past it and I don't enjoy watching the team with him in central midfield anymore.

The midfield is poor, Nakamura looks lost without Telfer as they both had a good understanding, Neil Lennon is Neil Lennon, although I've always liked him. Gravesen adds a much more direct approach to the midfield and he wouldn't be walking the ball into the net like the team seem to think they have to. Jarosik's been awful, despite his debut against Kilmarnock in August. McGeady's been amazing all season.

The defence is okay, but nothing special. Wilson and Naylor both look good when pushing forward, although they looked too nervy in the big stages, Milan mainly. Our central defence is okay, although a bit rusty at times. The defence needs seriously strengthening, the centre primarily for next season. A touch of class is definitely needed and what's happened to this Doumbe we signed? No one knows....

In conclusion to my post, what is definitely needed to strengthen our team is...

A few decent centre backs, maybe a full back also.
A midfielder with a direct approach like Gravesen.
A striker to go with Hesselink, someone with his understanding and he could fight for a place with Riordan.

Anyway, that's everything really, just lots of crap I could think of noted down in no particular order.
