Simple question: which set of players would have been happier to hear the whistle at the end of extra time knowing that the previous 120 minutes no longer mattered and everything was now reset back to 50/50? Which team would have been in a more positive frame of mind and looking forward to it more going into the shootout: Chelsea or Bayern? Repeat the exercise for any game you've ever seen ending in a shootout.

Exactly.

Penalty shootouts benefit the worse team - that's just plain bare-faced fact. I'm a little bemused how anyone could reasonably argue otherwise?

Probably bayern, they won the semi on a peanlty shootout, whereas many chelsea players will have carried the scars of moscow.

It will IMO. A few of their stars will end up going elsewhere for CL football and they'll be back to where they started a few years ago.

Very cruel considering the season they've had. They'll dust themselves down and go again, redknapp is a very positive manager, but it will be tougher next year.

I reckon Mr levy is quietly content knowing that his star players are worth an absolute fortune which is manna from heaven for his fellow shareholders - now the club has a legitimate excuse to let Bale & Modric go maybe even Walker $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

It doesn't matter who is happier to hear the final whistle or not because the human mind is far more complicated that you think. Not everybody crumbles in the face of a challenge which is what you appear to be suggesting. Some people thrive on pressure and the big moment. Just because you appear to think that everybody, no matter who they are, should collapse mentally because they are less happy at reaching a challenge than someone else does not automatically make it so for everybody. I understand what you're saying and can see where you're coming from but how does your theory stack up against (ten men) England vs Argentina in 1998? Brazil v Italy (who played for pens) 1994? (ten men) England v Portugal 2006?

I know the rest of the country hates John Terry so they see something bad in everything he does, but I'd much rather my club captain shows absolute delight at seeing his team mates take the Champions League trophy than describing the event as "just about the worst experience I'd had in football".

John Terry is a bell end, but IMO if the Chelsea players were happy having him in full kit in the celebrations then so be it, it's their moment, they naturally would have wanted him to share in it after what happened in Moscow. That said, i never wanted to see him win a CL medal, ever, nor did i want Cashley to win one, but Cashley was faultless last night, and his pen was unstoppable, so fair play.
