i believe the original term comes from when wrestling was included in fairs and carnivals, certain people used to get identified by the carneys as suckers, and were then 'marked' by them, who then proceeded to get them into the shows, totally believing it was completely real.
that term has carried on, as above now used for someone who watches it and majorly reacts to something, even though they now now its completely scripted or whatever.
Sometimes you've just got to admire some poop that gets done. It may be fake but i wouldn't do most of the stuff they do, as normal.
