Eurosport have quickly picked up the USPGA Golf events so rights can be shifted at quick notice. Let's hope NRL soon follows somewhere.

ESPN ANNOUNCE PLAN FOR NEW UK CHANNEL


ESPN plan to launch a new channel in the UK on 3rd August called ‘ESPN,’ which will televise 46 Barclays Premier League matches this coming season, it was announced today by Lynne Frank, Managing Director, ESPN for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Frank also announced the channel will be made available in both standard definition (SD) and high-definition (HD), making the UK based premium sports channel the company’s first HD channel in Europe.



The new channel will offer live Barclays Premier League football, international sports and a wide-range of premium U.S. sports previously provided on ESPN America, which will be integrated in the UK into the new channel.



ESPN Classic (Sky Guide 442), which showcases the greatest moments in sport, will remain within the ‘News and Events’ pack. For Sky’s commercial customers, all ESPN channels will be included within Sky’s ‘Ultimate’ channel pack. ESPN HD will be available at no extra cost to those who subscribe to ESPN and have Sky’s HD Pack. Sky has confirmed that Sky Sports subscribers will be able to subscribe to ESPN for £9 per month while other Sky customers will be able to subscribe from £12 per month.

On Sky it's 417, ESPN America, same as it's been for ages.

Reading that am i correct in saying that ESPN America is going off on the 3rd August to be replaced simply by "ESPN" which is then a subscription channel ala Setanta was and not included in a package?

Also what is the "ultimate" channel package, i have no idea if we have that.

Not happy about the new ESPN channel. It seems that they are basically going to show the football and other sports on just 1 channel as well as the US sports and get rid of ESPN america. So instead of been able to watch College Football, MLB and NHL pretty much when ever Iwant, which is why I subscribed to NASN in the first place, I will have to put up with more premier league and possibly s***y scotish football

ESPN can kiss goodbye to my £9 per month unless there remains a dedicated US sports channel.

Read somewhere else that ESPN have taken 4 channel spaces and are testing at the moment. We might see an ESPN 1 and 2 with corresponding HD channels.
