Why it went to penalties as many other cup finals have done in the past. Cardiff played well and gave as good as they got. If they'd have won the shootout it would have been helpful sock heaven on here, especially from fans of clubs who'd have loved to have been playing in a cup final today.
I think winning the cup today was a little more than just winning a minor cup final to a lot of people at the club. The club's been dragged through the gutters for the past few years, to get back and win a trophy, yes, any trophy, must feel like a brilliant achievement for all at the club. Maybe standards have dropped, and maybe them enjoying it is small time, but compared to relegation battles under Roy, it probably does feel like a God-like achievement.
As for the game itself, we really shouldn't have put ourselves in that position. We had so many chances, it really exposed our weakness in our finishing.
At the end of the season the win won't mean that much at all, if the 4th place isn't taken. I'm sure none of the people who watch LFC on here would be happy with that. Joke's aside, it's a step forward for the club, it's the first step on the road to becoming a top side again. The premier league need's more teams challenging the big 2 and hopefully with a Europa League spot secure they can get the taste for european football once again.
I know he's an easy target, but Andy Carroll???....How very, very poor is he???...
He's a (very) poor man's Denis Stracquilursi and when you compare their relative costs it's a poor signing. I felt sorry for him today, he did plenty of the 'strong front man' work, knock downs, holding the ball up. It was Suarez that was so static and wasted almost every ball he received. I don't think there were many occasions today where the Suaz kept the ball within 6 feet of himself with his first touch.

He just isn't a Liverpool player.....I'd like to say he's a trier, but he isn't even that.
For Liverpool to progress, they have to bite the bullet and admit they got it wrong and get shut of him.....And that Henderson lad shouldn't be too far behind him.
Suarez, though poor today, is a decent player, but he needs better than Carroll up alongside him.

Last three trophies all won on pens. The CL final against AC Milan, fair enough, to come back from 3-0 down to even take it to pens was amazing. But needing pens to beat the might of West Ham and Cardiff City is just embarrassing.
if chelski had of beaten the scum in moscow would you be slagging them off for winning the euro cup on penalties!!!! .a win is a win is a win = a trophy. who cares how its won.its the winning that counts EVERYTIME not the performance.

I've said many times that I don't even think major trophies should be decided by penalties anyway. I think having the World Cup and CL finals decided with a penalty shoot out is a travesty of both competitions and both games should have a replay.
But that wasn't even my point. It's not that you needed penalties to win the FA and League Cup, it's that you frigging needed them to win against West Ham United and Cardiff City (and Brum before that).
Winning a trophy is always to be welcomed, but there is clearly a difference between beating Manchester United, the newly crowned Champions, or a relegated Portsmouth. And beating a Championship side on pens is far worse.
I personally think Liverpool deserve the trophy far more because of the away win at Chelsea and the semi win over Citeh. That has been a tough ask and that's where the work was. But needing to take the game to pens against Cardiff is a poor way to win a trophy, and if it was another top club who won the trophy in that way you'd be one of the first people having a dig over it.
A long time since I've seen a more cynical 90 minutes than that of Atlético Madrid tonight. It's a shame as they can actually play some really good football. Messi's winner was a gem of a free kick. Cristiano Ronaldo's goal scoring record is scary. Mourinho's managed to make others work to give him more time and space and it's paying off big time. How Pepe and Sergio Ramos didn't get red cards this afternoon, I'll never know.
