So young Mr Strasburg looks like the real deal. 14ks in 7 innings on your major league debut is pretty impressive. Haven't seen highlights yet but apparently his curve is unbelievable and his fastball got up to 100mph.

That was the first thing I checked on the news this morning. Incredible debut. I haven't read much of the reaction about it yet but 14k's is first rate stuff any other time normally, so to do it on your debut and over just seven innings. Wow! I hope the Nationals can keep hold of him and some of their other talent to make things interesting. They could grow that club on the back of him and some of their other talent.

The record is 15ks according to MLB.com

J.R. Richard and Karl Spooner are tied for the record with 15 in their first games. Richard did it for the Astros at San Francisco on Sept. 5, 1971 while Spooner got his mark for the Brooklyn Dodgers on Sept. 22, 1954 against the New York Giants.

14ks is pretty amazing though.

Jays are stinking it up in Tampa, but then we always do so I'm not overly concerned. We have a shot at avoiding the sweep tonight, which is pretty much all I could have hoped for out of this series. We really do hate going to Tropicana.

Jays put Johnny Mac on bereavement list so he can be with his dad, who has cancer and recently took a turn for the worse. Called up DeWayne Wise who made an instant impact pinch running for Adam Lind. Scored what turned out to be the winning run with a brilliantly timed run off a sac fly and an amazing slide to beat the play at the plate. If the name sounds familiar, it's because he made THAT catch in Buehrle's perfect game.

Huge test for the Jays tonight against Ubaldo Jimenez. Can the 'Bomb Squad' be the first team to really get to him? We've only scored 10 runs in the last 5 games but I can't see that lasting. We were also the first team to get to Greinke last year so who knows.

Halladay smashed allover Yankee Stadium last night. We're on a roll although we have been playing poor teams to get there.
