Good stuff. Isn't needed, I know when we do get knocked out though, the press will blame it on the lack of Beckham's experience, because he's been so important in our previous world cups.
Good stuff? That's a little harsh when his career could be over.
For what it's worth, I think he is needed. He's a loss to the squad both on the pitch and off it.

Purely from the perspective of the English national side, I do believe it is good. Maybe I should have added that I don't wish injury upon anyone, but I couldn't be bothered.
Let's be honest, ash, he's been to three world cups yet every time we've bottled it, I honestly don't see what he'd bring to the squad other than somebody to respect and look up to, but why would they need that with Capello in charge?
On the pitch I feel he adds very little, his crossing could be effective, but so could Gary Neville's long throw, shall we take him as well? He also ticks the experience box.

Take him as part of the coaching staff if his a good influence off the pitch. He is not player he was and looks shockingly poor every time he pulls on the AC jersey. There is no room for loyalty in a World cup year and definately shouldent be picked because it "would be nice for him to go to his fourth world cup",

The reason I would have had him in my squad is because he offers something different to our other right wingers. Lennon, Walcott and Wright-Phillips are all too similar and lack what Beckham offers. Whereas the three mentioned are pacey and cause defenders problems because of it, none of them have a consistent final ball. Beckham offers that and has a better footballing brain than the others. I definitely wouldn't have started him, that's Lennon's spot, but he'd have been a good option from the bench.
Also couldn't care about loyalty either, doesn't come into it for me. I'd take him because of what he offers to the team/squad, not because of what his name is.

Let's be honest, ash, no player in football can consistently provide assist making, or dangerous balls. Beckham's ratio is probably higher than Lennon's and SWP's, but I still wouldn't put it very highly. I don't believe crossing is such an issue in the England side, I believe Johnson is a good crosser, as is Barry and if we really wanted a pure crosser on the right, we could put Bentley there, although some may confuse crosser with a very similar sounding word
I honestly feel Beckham adds very little to the team, and, what he does add isn't worthy enough of a call up at this level. You just can't have a player in a team for one very minor skill, we need complete players, versatile players who can adjust to the situation, Beckham is very limited in his play and where he can play.
Have you seen his performances with AC Milan ? he's been nothing but rubbish.
Wednesday versus us is a prime example of why Beckham was guaranteed a place in the squad. He came off the bench, had a decent effort, and set up a few more. He was Milan's best player and if they had a striker who could finish they'd have scored a couple.
Beckham's crossing alone is enough for him to be selected, nobody else in the England squad comes close to his quality. Lennon's England's best winger, yet he's struggling, after that, England are struggling to get a decent winger to South Africa.
Look at Rooney's form this season, he's scoring loads with his head, important headed goals too. Having Beckham in the side would give Rooney more than enough chances to get his head on a decent ball.
Beckham has done everything he needed in order to make sure he has the chance of going to SA. It's a real shame for him that he won't be there.
