None. IMO.

He'd have got stick for it if he'd done it and they lost. But so would Hodgson.

Hmm, no league game until next Monday, a team definitely in need of playing together a bit and they "rest" players and scrape a 1-0 against a team they'd expect to put to bed in the first leg.

It will be interesting to see if it is mentioned if they do go out.

Yup. I think the silly money deal though was when they paid more for Chris Sutton. Or the fact that they paid at all for Stuart Ripley. 8)

Stuart Ripley was a good winger for us,if you look at our title winning season his crosses into the box lead to a load of goals for the SAS.As for Sutton we paid 5 million for him that in the end was good money spent,he helped us win the title and we sold him for double that to Chelsea.

7.5million for Kevin Davies and 6 million for Corrado Grabbi are 2 examples of silly money we paid in the past for forwards.Sutton was a bargain compared to those two.

No they haven't really done it in such numbers since, but as Andy Gilder points out, they've had no need to and the previous nucleus is still there keeping them out. Perhaps when the now 'old guard' all call it a day, it could happen then. The likes of Gibson, Cleverley, and Evans Jr could be the spearheads of another batch.

They could be, but I'm not sure any of the kids brought through and released by United have been good enough to come back to bite them on the backside. If the likes of Scholes and Giggs had been released because someone was in front of them, I've no doubt that they would have proved United wrong.

Who's been their most high profile release? Richardson, and he's no better than average.

I'm not saying that coaching and scouting played no part, nor that it was due to luck that these players made the grade. I'm saying that the number of talented kids that came through in one batch was down to luck. Has any other side in top flight football ever had 6 or 7 youngsters come through in one or two years that have been so good? Certainly not in this country. 6 or 7 over ten years yes, but not 2.

Must admit it's a bit baffling that one. £20million player spends most of first season with the club physio. He recovers and.. is sent out on loan :EH:
I can't believe he isn't good enough to get in the Liverpool midfield.

New midfielder came, was playing in November, waited about 5 months to get a chance, was the brightest part of the team in a dire finish to the season. Result? Loaned out to Juve. Not sold, not player traded, but loaned!

I'm not gonna contradict myself, I said before he came and when he came, my biggest fear with Roy was his ability in the transfer market and the type of player he likes to manage. Look at what he signed at Fulham, it's scary, then I see us signing Poulsen and trying to sign Luke Young/Konchesky/Figueroa, it's scary what type of player he's deeming good enough for us.

Aquilani - on pure footballing talent - is right up there with the best in the league, in terms of passing, touch, technique, vision and sheer ability, he is immense, whilst he shown last season he has terrific energy levels. I refuse to believe he's too 'lightweight' and I refuse to believe it's a fitness thing. He's better than Joe Cole, so I can't understand what Roy's motive is by letting him go.

David James will be sick of picking the ball out of his net. His back will have packed in before the transfer window shuts.
