Re: More Football Chat : Wed Feb 10, 2010 2:01 pm
Can't see any sort of protest working at the Milan game. The one being suggested was tried in 05 and had no impact. The best thing now is for the green and gold to gather pace between now and the end of the season, and then try and get some organised effort for people to give up season tickets and either boycott or get a membership instead. No - one would be tied to the Cup scheme (which after attending every league cup game doesn't even guarantee you a ticket for the final), the people who say they can't give up Utd could pick and choose their games with the membership and the Glazers would only be getting £30 upfront per fan instead of £700+.

As for the £1.2bn asking price, it is upto the fans to devalue the 'brand' of MUFC to the point where the Glazers would be happy to accept the first reasonable offer that comes in rather than hang on for the top market price.

Let's be honest, 606 isn't the view of Liverpool supporters as a whole. Many were sweetened early on by their big promises, but the majority knew all along that DIC was what we needed, massive investment to come in, fund a stadium and transform the squad. Some people thought the Americans would do this with all their talk early on, but it didn't take people long to realize. The majority of Liverpool supporters who were happy, were only happy because they thought we'd finally get some kind of investment, that we'd finally start catching up on United and we wouldn't have to 'sell to buy' every summer. But, they were wrong and the Americans have screwed us over. Some fans might have bent over for the Americans, but there were large portions who were unhappy and were wary of the threat they posed to the club.

Where were the much proclaimed Spirt of Shankly group as the takeover of LFC was taking place? Had they been formed back then or were they set up post takeover? (Genuine question btw, not having a dig).

I don't know, I'm not a member and don't involve myself with SoS, I know very little of their history or foundation. I've only known of them for the past few years.

Would be good to see a joint Utd/Liverpool protest at the upcoming game at OT. Couldn't see it happening though. However if a few thousand whistles were to be taken into the ground by fans of both clubs it would make for an interesting afternoon.

The problem there is there are too many "plastic fans" who will just top the brand up. I've seen Old Trafford change as I grew up. My first game in the ferocity of the old Stret, through to the timid, day trip orientated match day experience. I remember the old days of concourse parties after game, now everyone is working their way out to get to Ringway.

As much as any of us who want to be able to afford to go week in week out, and support the club like back in the early 90s want to, we won't be able to, because there is that much geared towards people who just want to go to United and spend £100 in the megastore will keep doing so, just do it more regularly.

It's a lot easier to get tickets now though. You can get tickets for every game in the week leading upto the game which never used to be the case. Any sort of boycott would make an impact this time as there aren't people falling over themselves for tickets anymore.

Just watching SSN, and Kamara said "two players had been dropped for reasons that could probably be worked out, but cannot be indulged", or something along those lines. Maybe I've missed something, WTF is he on about?
