The letter states that around 12 stadia with a minimum capacity of 40,000 will be needed to host the tournament. The stadium for the final will have to have at least 80,000 seats - Wembley has 90,000.

Why is everyone going on about regionality? On the above message which is quoted from the official letter out by FIFA, that's all it stipulates.

Meaning that:

1. Wembley (London)
2. Old Trafford (Manchester)
3. Emirates (London)
4. St James Park (Newcastle)
5. Stadium of Light (Sunderland)
6. City of Manchester (Manchester)
7. Anfield (Liverpool)
8. Villa Park (Birmingham)
9. Stamford Bridge (London)
10. Goodison Park (Liverpool)
11. Elland Road (Leeds)
12. Hillsborough (Sheffield)

are all currently set within the current limits. Hillsborough is the next biggest one and is only 200 seats off 40,000. Not to mention that Wolves have plans to expand Molineux to 40k. Birmingham City also have plans in the pipeline to build a 55k stadium, while Notts Forest have a 50k stadium in the pipeline. Leicester City's ground can be expanded to 55k. Derby are going to increase theirs to 44k.

There is plenty of scope for the future. If all these come off, you can have Leicester's and Derby replacing Goodison Park and Stamford Bridge

This means you've got a stadium in all the country's major cities which I feel is perfectly fine.

In 1935 The Dragon Slayers as they were known defeated Canterbury bulldogs 91-6, which is still the biggest win in the Club's History. ENGLAND, Australia, the United States and South Korea are among the 13 countries to have formally expressed their interest in hosting the 2018 or 2022 World Cups, FIFA says.

The 11 potential bids include joint efforts by Belgium and the Netherlands, who have already linked up to stage Euro 2000, and from 1982 World Cup hosts Spain and Euro 2004 hosts Portugal.

Indonesia, Japan (2002 co-hosts with South Korea), Russia, Mexico, the venue for the 1970 World Cup, and Qatar were the other countries that came forward by Monday's preliminary deadline, world football's governing body said in a statement on Tuesday

Union is played by people who close airports after a bit of snow, League is played by people who would go and have a snowball fight with a 747

Why the accusations earlier on in the thread that it would `kick-off` if held in England -from what I recall of our last international tournment hosting - EURO 96 - it was a great festive atmosphere with little sign of trouble anywhere ?

It's a little bit more complicated than that.

You are only allowed one city to have two host venues. London will probably have Wembley and The Emirates which would probably rule out the City of Manchester Stadium.

That said, it'd be interesting if Everton do end up moving to Kirkby.

This seems to confirm that

if australia does get the world cup, forget ANZ stadium hosting the final...does anyone else think a soccer world cup final at the iconic MCG would be amazing?!

HARRY Kewell will miss Australia's key World Cup qualifier against Japan on Wednesday after failing to make his comeback for his Turkish club at the weekend.

Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek left the door open for Kewell to come in as late addition when he announced his 22-man squad announced last week.

But he said Kewell, who has been sidelined since having a hernia operation two months ago, first needed to demonstrate his fitness with his club Galatasary.

Kewell did not play in Galatasaray's 1-1 draw with Kayserispor, effectively ruling him out of a trip to Yokohama to join the national team.
