Can someone actually tell me if Gary Neville was banned after celebrating infront of Liverpool fans.
This weekend, the media in all formats, has stated that Adebayor should be banned for the celebration because Neville received a two-game ban. I was under the impression Neville didn't get banned.
What about all of this nonsense that "in the current climate, following what happened in the West Ham - Millwall game, Adebayor should receive a lengthy ban". What has that got to do what happened on a Saturday, at a game involving completely different teams, in a different city, with no history of rivalry between the fans?

No, he was fined £5000. He made an statement on the matter at the time.
Gary Neville wrote:
I believe it is a poor decision. Not just for me but for all footballers.
Being a robot, devoid of passion and spirit is obviously the way forward for the modern-day footballer. And I ask the authorities, 'Where is football being taken?'
I think that holds true today!

Welcome to the world of supporting a club that the media now want to put the boot in at every given opportunity. The role of lovable underdog, there to be simply laughed at has gone and we should be thankful for that.
It's all getting very silly now. The media are on a 'clampdown' frenzy. We had the diving crusade last week and now that will be forgotten about as we move on to this.
Seeing as players can be charged with inciting a riot for celebrating a goal, will the next step be charging referees with the same offence for match costing, blatantly incorrect decisions?
Phil Neville will have a lengthy lay off now, he has damaged his knee ligaments and although Mick Rathbone can't confirm how long he will be out for it is a lengthy lay off.
Anyone fancy playing right back Thursday then, seen as we havn't got one!?

Unfortunately this could become a habit. What are the chances of Barry scoring against Villa, Lescott against Everton and Tevez against United?
I think Hughes needs to appoint a "designated tackler" who's job includes immediately rugby tackling these players if they ever score against their former club, before they can get anywhere near the opposition fans.
Clearly whoever gets the job need to have pace (although nobody would have caught Adebayor) and strength. I would nominate Micah Richards for the job.
What sort of fool can be driven to 'riot' by a footballer? Why should a player have to bear in mind what the reaction of a small minority of crazy, over-emotional numptys might be, especially when it spoils the fun for the rest of us sentient creatures who are able to resist the urge to become a street-fighting man as a response to a footballer's actions?
No footballer has ever, nor ever could make me want to create civil disorder and I'm sure you feel exactly the same. Yes, they can annoy and frustrate. Yes, you may wish to swear at them sometimes - but enough to start fighting? Enough to lose your mind? Have some self control. He is just not that important. Not important enough to commit violence or wanton destruction over. That's not your passion for the game, or the club, it's just inappropriate, emotionally incontinent over-reaction and needs to be condemned as such.
