Injury problems for the Cougars. : Sat Apr 11, 2009 9:18 am
Friday night’s 13-12 victory over York City Knights proved expensive for the Cougars.
With his forward strength already diminished by injuries and visa concerns, head coach Barry Eaton goes into Monday’s Co-operative Championship One encounter at Hunslet Hawks with a batch of new injury worries.
Karl Gunney pulled up with a hamstring problem during the first half against York while Carl Hughes was a victim of an ankle problem just seconds after taking the field as a first-half substitute, prop Scott Law suffered a shoulder problem and prop Craig Brown has a foot injury.
With prop Andy Shickell still recovering from his cartilage operation and Australian Brendon Rawlins still without a work permit it would leave Simon Bissell as the club’s sole remaining recognised first-team prop forward.
Eaton said: “We showed great strength of character to beat York but now we’re left picking up the pieces.
“I shall look at the situation again on Sunday and name my squad to play Hunslet once we know the full extent of the damage”.
The match at the South Leeds Stadium will be Cougars’ third in eight days, including that demanding Carnegie Challenge Cup Fourth Round encounter with engage Super League club Castleford Tigers on April 5.
