The Saints coming marching in to Cougar Park. : Thu Nov 12, 2009 1:28 pm
Keighley Cougars have confirmed some of the pre-season matches they will
be playing in the run up to the 2010 Co-operative Championship.
And the undoubted stars of the show are engage Super League club St
Helens who will be visiting Cougar Park on Sunday, January 24th!
Add in a Christmas holiday trip to play former Championship One rivals
Hunslet Hawks at the South Leeds Stadium on Sunday, December 27th and
the traditional Peter Fell Memorial game when the Cougars play a team
selected from the cream of the local amateur Rugby League clubs on
Sunday, January 10th and Cougar fans can start looking forward to a new
season.
The Cougars are also trying to arrange at least two more pre-season
games so that the five new players that have been recruited to bolster
the Cougars team following their promotion at the end of the 2009 season
have an opportunity to blend into the patterns used by Head Coach Barry
Eaton.
Helen Carter, the Cougars' General Manager, said: "The prospect of St
Helens sending a team to Cougar Park is very exciting.
"Hopefully, they'll take the opportunity to play some of their big-name
players and that'll be a great attraction for the Cougar fans and a
great experience for our players.
"We hope to be able announce at least two more fixtures in the near
future but we're still discussing the possible dates with the clubs
concerned.
"It's vital that Barry Eaton and the players have the kind of warm-up
fixtures they need to prepare for life in the Championship".
